What amazes me is that pilot himself admitted that the plane was 'dodgy', yet still decided to fly it - at night, and relying on his own vision in the dark, rather than use any IT equipment or radar system.

I wouldn't normally speak ill of the dead, but he really does sound like a complete ****.

.

I was struggling to get my head around that too.

It's hardly getting on a rusty old bike thinking this looks a bit dodgy is it?

Money ? Wasn’t the pilot in a lot of debt ?

And dare say could be plenty of other ‘reasons’ to be made to do it.

Doesn't look/sound good and i could never understand why a flight like that in time of year at night over water was allowed to fly ? Surely you would want to protect your investment. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-62594529

Brake pedal not working, mist in the cabin, loud bang in the previous flight, no night flight license, no paying passenger license. The pilot was a fool to fly and it cost him his life and poor Sala. How grubby do Cardiff look too.

Still in Brighton
Makes you wonder how much of this goes on? Perhaps more so abroad in less regulated countries. Madness to just "wing it" (no pun intended) on such a dangerous journey at night in a single engine plane.
In Sala's position I would hope that on taxi-ing I would say , no stop let me out (which as the single paying customer I assume one could do) but that would still take some doing.
Poor sod. RIP.

I forgot Willie McKay was involved in that deal. If there is something dodgy going on, you can bet he was heavily involved.

The report does say that McKay chartered Henderson to fly the plane, who was a proper commercial pilot with the right licence. Henderson was the one who shifted the charter to a dodgy pilot in a dodgy plane, and I haven't seen any evidence that McKay was ever told that his client was flying with a cowboy.

Maybe but having followed horse racing for years, McKay was always involved when something "amiss" was going on with his nags. Google seems to have been cleaned up about some of these scams and misdemeanours but this one gives you a flavour of his MO.

I'm saying nothing about the rest of his activities. Only that he doesn't appear to have been involved with this specific pilot and plane.

The BBC coverage on this today is quite depressing. What a bloody cheapskate mess that led to this tragedy and hearing the pilot and Salas last calls as well as the footage of the plane taking off is horrendous

You wonder what might have been if Sala had made it to Cardiff and scored enough goals to give them an additional 3 points. That would have relegated us, Dunk and Gross might have been sold. Sliding doors moment.
