.. any time now..

Firefighters have been put on standby at Gatwick Airport as a plane with hydraulic problems prepares to land.

Crews are not permitted to disclose any details of any incidents at the airport because of security fears but is understood firefighters from Crawley and Horley and surrounding areas were called shortly after 11am this morning.

They have met at a rendezvous point slightly north of the airport and are on full alert as the aircraft makes its descent into the country's second busiest airport.

11:14am today

It's possible that it could lead to a temporary suspension on train services in the area for a while as well.

Holy hell.
Source ?

The Argus.

Mind you, there are quite a lot of emergency landings - it's only the shockers we get to hear about. Fingers crossed..

Could even be a light aircraft, using Gatwick as the nearest available runway?
Not necesssarily a packed 747..

Mind you, I might be going for a drive if I lived anywhere just short of the runway...

From the Argus, everything looks ok.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Gatwick Airport said at 11.40am that the plane had landed safely and all crews had been stood down.

Came home from Prague on Sunday night and landed at Gatwick. Always shits me up a bit when you hear the undercarriage clonk into place. Mind you, I'd be even SCAREDER if I didn't hear that sound I suppose.

Clearly the Argus is having a slow news day: emergency landings (and I'm not even sure that's the correct term) are surprisingly common at LGW, as with most major airports.

Happen fairly regularly, mainly for precautionary reasons, but it's standard practice to have all the emergency services on standby.

Keeps them on their toes, eh?

I find it hard to believe Muslims can get upset about anything when you consider the fact that they think it acceptable to bury somebody to their neck and throw stones at the head of rape victims, or anyone for that matter.

And gives the police something else to do rather than going round upsetting muslims eh?

Lets not forget one thing, Not all terrorist's are muslims!

But it's better to treat all muslims as terrorist's just to be on the safe side.
