Not mine but my wife's great, great grandfather was found guilty of eating the cabin boy when marooned at sea in a lifeboat. He didn't eat him all on his own, there were a couple of others too.

There's a book called 'Blood on the Sea' about it.

My sister did family history research on our paternal line and found out that our biological grandfather was in fact the milkman. He and his best mate , who was married to our grandmother were convicted of murdering a doctor near the Race Hill in the late 1920's. They were both due to be hanged but there was a prison fight and they helped save a screw from being killed so their sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.

I recently found out that my great-grandfather used to knock about with a certain Mr Oswald Moseley. Was quite shocked when I found out about it but made me realise how interesting and potentially shocking genealogy can be. Anyone else got any interesting ancestral anecdotes?

My Great-grandfather is directly to Moseley's right

men with tashes are very very odd

but not as odd as women with tashes

Have connections to the Pazzi family, the conspiracy to take out the Medici family to take control of the banks and all the land in Florence.

One of my relations was a famous smuggler who regularly battled the customs patrols all over the Sussex countryside.

Although I actually think that is quite cool.

I am also 45th generation Roman...;)

There's one of those round blue plaques on a pub in Alfriston in homage to a famous Sussex Smuggler - not him is it?

Blimey, that's quite interesting find. My most shocking discovery is my great grandparents hailed from Gillingham. The shame of it:blush:

My wife's g-grandfather was decorated with 3 others in the Boer War for holding off a column of Boer's who'd ambushed a train. An account of the action made the papers and we've got a copy of it.

Also remember a dodgy bloke at school who uncovered he had a relative who was hung or flogged for horse theft a few centuries ago.

Anyone see Armstrong & Miller's take off of Who do you think you are? "This is the Census of 1864, and lets see, ah yes, here's your gt, gt, gt, gt mother. Born..... 1845. Birthplace...... London. Occupation......Whore......:lolol::lolol:
