El Abd's behaviour...

Now, before I begin let me just start by saying that I LOVE Adam El Abd. He has been an absolute rock for us and everything about his game is fully deserving of his place in the starting eleven. BUT.

We all know what he's like with the opposition, constant digs in the ribs, pushing, prodding, DIVING and frequently trying to get other players booked or sent off. Every single game, he goes down clutching his face and cheating basically, with little gain.

He did get a reaction out of Lambert once (which was glorious to see) but I think the vast majority of strikers at this level are just too good to let that kind of behavior affect them and all it ends up doing is making Adam look a bit of a wally.

Not only that, yesterday, his idea to go down like he'd been shot in the face after 5 or so minutes left their striker with a free header and very nearly cost us a goal.

We're the first to complain when teams like Millwall waste time, go down easily etc, but for me El Abd is one of the worst culprits.. and he doesn't need to be.

Thoughts?

(ps. Adam, if you're reading this. I don't mean any of it. It's all lies. Will Hoskins told me to write it. Please don't hurt me)

El abd sums up a lot about what is wrong in the game. However, it is a big part of the game now. So every team needs its El abds, until the rulemakers start to make a regular example of such behaviour.

I thought the forward did a "Fellaini/Shawcross" on him, as Adam was really winding him up a treat. And he did the head-rub on him afterwards

After Adam got booked, I thought he and Greer switched duties, in case it got a bit naughty and a red card came his way.

I think that was part of Adam's duties last night, keep the forward in your pocket, and wind him up. It worked a treat for the first 35 minutes.

Cheating/Tactics??? I put it down to tactics. When the opposition do it, its cheating :dunce:

El Abd reducing Andy Carroll to a whining mess last season was glorious to watch. We were never going to beat Liverpool from 3-1 down, but it isn't a coincidence that the rout really started the minute El Abd was substituted.

When he went down last night, I couldn't help feeling it was just because he'd let the guy have a free header & he didn't want to look like he'd screwed up...

After a handbags incident with Wood he went looking for him and put in a disgraceful late tackle on him that not only could have broken the boys leg, but earned him a yellow which meant that Greer had to mark Wood after that. Greer ffs. El Abd can be a rock but I wish he would stop all that winding up malarkey. Anyway I thought Wood was excellent last night. Imagine that, being able to hold the ball up.

I'm not so bothered by the odd hard challenge. He just seems to be the biggest cheat in the team. And I don't like it.

lol

Hardly. Wood taught him a lesson last night. Outplayed AND out-muscled. that doesn't happen to Adam often.

Again - lol.

Liverpool scored from a corner at our end, purely because Adam was so busy trying to play games with Carroll, that he forgot all about actually defending the ball.

Agree that he needs to stop the persistent "winding up" as it will just lead to needless bookings and suspension. It was also interesting that Poyet's early formation last night involved El Abd playing further up the field. He used to be a midfielder but these days, if he crosses the half way line, all his coordination goes and gets the proverbial nosebleed. I still reckon he is invaluable to the team.

That only happen when they switched after Adam's booking.

I was talking about the at the start of the game.

When he was holding him at the corner and the guy took exception to it, and appeared to headbutt Adam and throw to the ground in front of Kuzack. Actually I've just realised it was Trotter! And I don't think Trotter was as effective as he has been in other matches this season!

So I think we can say Adam "did a job" on him! lol

Sorry. I like El Abd, but that's nonsense. Wood totally outplayed him. Wood was simply too strong, and Adam just could get round him. Wood controlled the ball, and did with it whatever he pleased, while Adam floundered behind him.

Every team needs a niggely wind up merchant, El-Abd is ours. Pure entertainment as far as I'm concerned.

Hans you have selectively edited my quote! lol I wasn't talking about Wood, I was talking about Trotter. Adam did the "Head rub" to Trotter after a few of the niggles and it wound him up even more

I haven't seen many live games but disappointed to read that he dives a lot, which is bound to look peculiar given that he's a large bloke (kind of like Drogba falling over all the time) and there's no need for it - sure, he does your basic wind up to a tee, but diving? Not good.

I was saying similar last night. He likes to be the windup merchant but it doesn't seem to work for him much these days. He got taught a lesson at Anfield. All his antics served to do last night was get an early booking so he had to keep an eye on bis game and then have a few decisions go against him; there was a second half incident when it looked like he was genuinely fouled in a good position for a free kick but the ref ignored his bleating. He was never going to get the benefit of the ref's doubt.
