with the 2 new fullbacks signed will calde and el abd be dropped on saturday or will gus play reyes in midfield or drop dunk and play elabd at centre half with greer.

I think the back four on Sat will be: Calderon Greer Dunk Mattock with Reyes on the bench.

El Abd is the best of the 3, outstanding defensively. If we can keep Mattock at the end of the year id get rid of Painter. Definitely not good enough for the championship. Very happy with the transfer window. We have strengthened our squad again. If we keep going the way we are and get rid of some of the players not up to it in the summer we'll be laughing.

Either elAbd or Calde will presumably be on the bench with Reyes (IF he is fit/has recovered from his groin strain) and Mattock taking over at full back. Neither Greer or Dunk could be dropped to accomodate elAbd based on their recent displays but his relative flexibility (albeit Calde has played central defence and played there well this season) should give Adam the nod for the bench. Gus has never been tempted to play Reyes in midfield and I can't see him trying it now although you never know for sure.

Painter will seriously struggle to get into the team now. He has looked slow when he has played. Rated him last year but the step up to the championship has possibly been a step to far.

I'd say since he's come back El-Abd's been by far our best defender

I agree. Poor old Marcus. But you can see why Swansea let him go on a free now.

His lack of pace limits him to being an excellent 1st division player, but poor championship one. All the time ElAbd, Reyes and Mattlock are available, I don't see Painter getting another game for us

If El-Abd never plays full back again, it's no bad thing. Love the bloke, and he's a terrific centre half, but he's not Championship level at full back I'm afraid. He's done a sterling job for us there the last couple of weeks, but it's not the best of him.

I think Mattock drops straight into the side, but Reyes could very well be played in midfield, or right back, so it's really just a case of competition and cover all round.

On the basis that Gus went with Greer and Dunk at Peterborough, dropping El-Abd to the bench, then that would appear to be the pecking order at centre back.

i thought Calderon has struggled in recent games up until last night , yep he scored that superb goal but in terms of his bread n butter play he seemed to me to be a bit off the pace , he managed to get forward a lot more last night and looked back to form and so unlucky not to score but for a superb save from speroni , so Gus bringing in direct competition seems to have done the trick there, it will be harsh dropping caldy or el abd imho unbeaten in 2012 ect ect ,but our situation regarding defenders looks a hell of a lot better today than it did on monday .

El-Abd is not a full back. Too slow, he was owned by zaha particularly at the beginning of the game and was woeful at reading. He is however a terrific centre half and that is where he should play. Calde had one of his better games last night, so he may retain his place. I would not be surprised to see both new boys start this weekend if training goes well.

I think it is fair to say as Gus brings in Better players our stars from last season will slip down the pecking order as the team progresses, unless of course they prove they are more worthy.

My instant thought was, 'blimey that's a good team, that might just work'.

Thanks Marshy for pointing out it doesn't include any of our 3 best attacking options.

Gus has very little to blame losses on now.
