I'm not a huge rugby fan by any stretch of the imagination, but one thing I do very much like about the sport is that the referees all wear the headset microphones that allow TV viewers to hear what is being said, and moreover that the players seem to have far more respect for the officials than is the case in football.

Case in point as I turned on the TV and happened to catch a part of the Australia/Japan game. One of the Australian players was being spoken to by the referee about something or other and presumably interrupted, causing the referee to respond with "Be quiet please, I'm talking now" at which the player shut up.

Neither on the side of player or the referee were there any raised voices or arm waving protests involving the offender and all of his team-mates, and the incident was dealt with quickly and without too much fuss, allowing the game to proceed.

I think a lot of footballers, and the game of football in general, could learn from this.

The referee headset is really very interesting to listen to during a game and the respect the referee is given is very encouraging and all sports should learn from this.

will be watching the football of course, but enjoy the egg chasing. hopfully there'll be highlights of the total ANNIHILATION of the USA, who will be lost without 3" of plastic protection.

Rugby refereeing is a complety different league. any bother, the ref asks the captians, and captains only over to have a chat. they nod dutifully and go back to their teams with their tail between their legs. not sure if they can send off someon for dissent but i think they have 10yard penalty rule for back chat. and the sin bin, that would be good in football too.

If you are watching the soccerball then apparently they are re-running the rugger in full on ITV4 at 19:05.

Normally I would watch the football BUT I just cannot stand it anymore, nothing to do with how crap we've become (and we have)... It's just they may cut to a shot of that GORMLESS TWAT AND HIS SHINY TEETH.

My TV has just exploded with the news that EMILE HESKEY starts.

Gareth Barry plays, but in central midfield. Gerrard plays, but with one foot tied above his head.
