Truff, did you venture near Mindo/Bellavista?

No, never ventured that way. Spent most of my time in the highlands and down in the Oriente. Pasochoa was one of my favourite places.

I like to blend in with the locals.

My favourite place was possibly Bellavista. In the cloudforests seperated from the rest of the world.

I did rather have a soft spot for Banos, although it was quite touristy. That is where I had my first taste of Cuy. I refrained from entering the baths though....bit yellow for my liking.

The baths were quite OK, but there was a small waterfall there you could sit under which was bloomin' freezing.

Some friends of mine were there at the same time and were serious mountaineers. I am not, so I met them in the pub each time they tried to reach the summit of Tungurahua, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, etc... And failed on every occasion as one or other of them would get altitutde sickness...

The best cloud forest I know is, coincidentally, Monteverde in Costa Rica. Home of the resplendent quetzal, no less...

Reserva Bellavista was an Eco-Toruism reserve gradually buying more and more of the forest to save it from the loggers.

Very occasionally we helped out at the hotel (Ewok Village). There was great excitement when someone announced they had seen a Kinkajou.

All the tourists rushed about to try and see it. The American Chef (drug addict) leant out the window and prclaimed to have lots of them in New York. :nono:

Nice to get back to our log cabin and leave the gringo's behind.

OK, people: as it's the 43rd minute now, get thee over to Google Images for today's halftime entertainment: posting your very own "Images of Costa Rica and Ecuador" (of course, the images can come from anywhere and be of anything). GO
