Lewes
Martin Elliot told me Lewes have until the end of March to do some fairly minor improvements to achieve Grade B ground status. This would include new turnstiles at the Ham Lane end of the ground which would be the segregated away end. 2 further turnstiles would be required. Lewes would then have a further 12 months to achieve Grade A ground status in order to secure permanent Conference status (subject to results of course). This would involve extending the new main stand the length of the pitch and doubling its capacity to 1,000. The full capacity would have to increase by a 1,000 and the ground would have to have 4 independent quadrants each with their own turnstiles, toilet and refreshment facilities. There would therefore be no opportunity to sit in the main stand in the first half and then behind the goal Lewes invariably attack in the second, for example.
The bar would need to be closed during the game and no drinking on the terrace (boo!).
About half the Conference games would require segregation, according to Police advice. Martin thinks they would not go full time (most Conference teams are) but some players could probably not maintain their day jobs given the extra travelling and commitment required.
So, Lewes obviously have to worry about getting up first, but if they do then watching games at the Pan may be quite a different experience.

Can Eastbourne go up if they finish top - is the ground up to standard? If it's not no point in them finishing top and denying the mighty rook there place in the conference.

id say there ground is better than lewes currently - possibly only segregation issues needed

What with the drink restrictions, I can see their attendance dropping if they go up.

Even Newport County were impressed by today's performance.

From the NCAFC official website:-

NEWPORT COUNTY (0) 1 LEWES (1) 3

County were simply blown away by the best visiting display at Spytty Park in a long while, but incredibly, deep into injury time, a point was still in their grasp only for two goals to be given away at the death. Lewes had almost complete midfield dominance in the first half yet their only goal was a sloppy affair after Andy Drury turned in a 34th minute Paul Booth cross that appeared to be going out of play. The introduction of substitute Nathan Davies in the 50th minute after an injury to defender Mark Dodds led to a sharp improvement in County’s play, though it was still harsh on Lewes when the other two substitutes, Jermaine Clarke and Charlie Griffin were involved in the 82nd minute equaliser. Clarke won a free-kick just outside the box and Andy Gurney’s superb delivery was flicked in by the head of Griffin to apparently ensure an undeserved point. But to their credit Lewes came back to win the game with a header from Tom Davis four minutes into stoppage time and a Gary Holloway penalty two minutes later.

Is this a Rooks appreciation thread??
they must have won.
12 games to go and it will be close.
Id rather have the ground ready for the Conference, than not bother and spend it on players and wait until you are there and then get it up to standard.
Problem is with Lewes is that if they spend money on the ground if they go up by playoffs or winning Conference South , will there be any money left for players??

Which is exactly what was thought by the league officials about the Rooks' progress from Isthmian League Division One South into the Conference South, when they put all sorts of obstacles in the way of them progressing.

Way out west
Lewes could have been about 4-0 up by the time Newport scored, good to see that Albion aren't the only team from Sussex finding success with keeping the ball on the deck, hopefully they can get promoted.
