When I went there I was right by the corner flag as far as possible from them, this 2 seasons back.

The last 3 seasons of youth football I started wearing headphones and listening to music, I got fed up with listening to idiots every Sunday morning.

At least you don’t have this problem at the Amex

I’ve been watching youth football for years, 2 sons now 22 and 17 both played from a young age. I would say I’ve seen good and bad parents watching many teams, I’ve stood away from parents of lads playing in the same teams as my sons, some of the mums can be as bad as the dads at shouting abuse and talking crap.

I would say that maybe some of the parents of kids from the Eastbourne team mentioned may not live in the area, a town up the road beginning with H has it’s fair share of riff raff :)
I remember one match watching my son at probably U9s, Rottingdean were the visitors, I was standing on my own watching the game and minding my own business and a Rottingdean parent asked if he could stand with me, he said he was embarrassed standing with his fellow parents ???
I’m sure not many of the parents of the Rottingdean kids that day actually lived in the village.

Bloody Heathfield, full of pikeys!

Question that nobody will know the answer to I doubt... but I spent some time wondering how Blackpool got that massive orange flag behind one of the goals (I’ve seen it before for sure maybe at the Amex) to the game, given it’s behind closed doors and 300 odd miles away. There’s a number of potential scenarios... I guess maybe someone who works for the club did it and it’s a club owned flag - but fair play to them if that’s true...!

You know where I mean, it’s not Heathfield.

There’s no H in Ailsham bruv... went to watch Hailsham town the other day which wasn’t too bad. Shinewater in ebo is pretty damn rough too. I ran round there when marathon training and it was like a step back in time!

Just in case anyone missed this, Eastbourne Borough take on Blackpool in the FA Cup today. Dean ‘Tiny’ Cox is expected to start. A cracking player in his day and Sergio Torres has plenty of Sussex connections given his time with Crawley, Whitehawk and the RMA Academy. He’s Assistant Player Manager and unlikely to start from what I can tell.

There’s a great film about Sergio called the Unknown Torres. It’s a great story about one of the nicest guys in football.

Anyone giving today’s game a watch? Any more Brighton connections?

As you probably already know, when Sergio Torres came over to England from Argentina in November 2003, in an attempt to make it as a footballer, he was invited to Albion for a two-week trial by Mark McGhee (who ultimately thought he was technically good but too slow and not strong enough for English football).

Danny Bloor spent about four years as a schoolboy at Albion back in the eighties. He played for the reserves when he was 15 (pic below from the Albion programme against Shrewsbury Town on April 12 1986) but he was released without being offered an apprenticeship. His lad Teddy spent his entire schoolboy "career" with Albion, but was also released at U-16 level without being offered a scholarship (he went on to join Mansfield Town where he spent 4 years in total; I think he's with Lewes now).

Leone Gravata (who came on as a sub today) also spent a number of seasons at Albion as a schoolboy before being released during his U-16 season.

Always amuses me in sleepy old Sussex, that some posters believe Langney and Shinewater to be rough. Everything is relative I suppose, but when we were thinking of moving down from Liverpool, my wife had an interview at a local comp, and was taken on a tour of the area as it was thought necessary to show her the 'deprivation'. Being from the NW and used to great cities like Manchester and Liverpool, she was quite confused by the comment. Yes, there are 'rough' places here in Eastbourne but believe me, that bear NO resemblance to rough areas in a large city.

I did see a Tweet from Blackpool FC thanking Boro for putting up the flag.

I have worked in various parts of Eastbourne and can’t say I’ve noticed anywhere I would consider rough, I did used to live in Whitehawk, but I worked with someone from Birmingham that said Whitehawk was nice compared to many parts of Brum.

I don’t know much about Shinewater and can’t say I’ve been there.

Exactly. I lived in some good parts of Liverpool and some really bad. When I moved back south, pretty much anywhere in Sussex would have been less rough than some of those places. Specially Anfield, although I quite liked living there, there was at least a 'buzz'.

Saw Worthing play away at Shinewater in the SSC a few years a ago and only encountered friendly locals

Sadly the club is no more and merged with Eastbourne United in 2003

Good to see the two clubs forging such a friendly relationship. It certainly looks like Blackpool have shown a lot of class here, as John Bonar says.

Blackpool have forgone their share of gate receipts, which considering there were only a handfull inside the ground, wouldn't have covered their costs anyway. But what about TV and prize money? That's not been mentioned. Probably more than the gate.
Well done to them anyway.

Whitehawk is nice compared to a lot of places for n Brighton and Hove, in fact I will say Sussex as well.

When I first moved down from south London I ended up in Whitehawk one day so had a walk about. Seemed a lot nicer than most of the places I'd lived in south London.
