He's got to win Le Tour, first.

Wiggins very impressive re the tacks incident. If he wins TdF he blows Cavendish achievements out the water, so has to win SPOTY.

If Wiggo is 6/4, Mo Farrah must be worth a punt.

I think it's wrong to compare the two achievements to be honest. Cavendish, as a sprinter, will never ever in a million years win a Grand Tour - he has however achieved the pinnacle for a road sprinter which is the green jersey and was only one point away from taking the equivalent in the Giro D'Italia this year. Also, his stage win tally is off the scale for a British rider and he's the current World champion (Rainbow jersey). If we must compare, then I'd say Cav's achievements are equal to that of Wiggins if he wins Le Tour de France this year.

In fact, edit that, Cav has actually achieved more so far IMHO, if we're doing comparisons.

I somehow can't see a cyclist getting it 2 years running. If Mo runs both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and gets gold in one and any medal in the other then I'd say he's favourite. It's our Olympic year and for many people Athletics really is the first thing that comes to mind as regards the Olympics.

The whole point of SPOTY is comparing the achievements and then deciding who is best. And to the voting public a TdF win, medals in each of the last 3 Olympics including 3 gold 1 silver and 2 bronze knocks 0 Olympic medals into a cocked hat.

If Wiggins were to win Olympic gold too, then he'd be nailed on for the runners up spot in SPOTY.

Behind Andy Murray of course.

Moi................oui 14/1.

Booked flights to Paris for next weekend today though so I fully expect him to fall off the col du tourmalet this week.

I am also covered on dastardly Chris Froome (at 50s).

SPOTY punting is wonderful value though, if you call it right you have an interest in every sporting event going throughout the year, although it does make you very very unpatriotic....................spoken like a true capitalist.

I he wins tour de France he has to win SPOTY, first British cyclist to ever win one of the worlds biggest sporting events, nailed on unless someone in the Olympics wins about 3 gold medals and breaks a few world records
