iTunes don't support DVDs so I think you'd have to download a DVD ripping programme somewhere that will convert the DVD into a .mov .mpeg .mp4 and then put it in iTunes and sync your iPad. That could be wrong but it's what I've always thought.

Not easily, no.

You need HandBrake to rip the film from the dvd. (Though, for legal purposes, Handbrake is not a ripper).

You might need other ripping tools depending on the security coding used on the dvd.

Depending on the file options on ripping, you might then have to convert the file to mp4 to import into your itunes library. Online converter - convert video, images, audio and documents for free

EDIT: Though, these days some dvds/bds are released with digital copies. I believe if you buy a dvd in tescos and have a club card they give you a code to download a digital version (that may have been a limited period offer I don't know).

For most DVDs, Handbrake works. Select the IPad preset. When the file is saved on your computer, simply drag and drop on to IPad via iTunes.
