You could always not bring them any back, it would be better for their health.

One of my sons is going to Dublin to work on Friday and will be there for 2 weeks. What is the average price of cigarettes and tobacco. They were taken from the airport to a hotel for a 1 day course last week and he said that the food in the hotel was very expensive but is that an indication of the gneral price or just because it was in a hotel. Is it generally expensive in Dublin?

Why can't they go and get it themselves?

Because my wife and i are retired so time is nota problem and it made a change to have a day out in France.

That is not the point now as we went and bought it for them however, but one of them is going on a contract to Dublin and is not sure whether to take some baccy with him or buy some over there, it is dependant on the price in Dublin.

Far from me to encourage smoking but having been trips for booze, I've noticed the price of tobacco has gone through the roof in France over the last few years. I may be wrong but it's also impossible to shop around for tobacco in France because the prices are regulated by the government.

As Beachy says head over the border in Belgium (about 30 min drive) and hit this village whose primary purpose is to sell tobacco to people from the UK.

Just had a look at EU cigarette prices and Ireland has knocked the UK off the top spot as most expensive.

That is what I did in early October. If you see I used a thread that was already started rather than start a new one.

like everyone else, I never check that.

Recycling threads ? Nice idea, are the mods starting to fine people like the local councils :D

I suspect tobacco prices aren't cheap at all in Dublin.

Belgium is much cheaper than France, also, it's not duty free, EEC innit!

That does mean that you can bring as much back as you like though.

Beware of the weakness of the GBP (£), 1 euro currently worth between 81-82p and getting worse.

Follow the A16-E40 motorway past Dunkerque. Exit at junction 36, taking the first exit off the roundabout at the bottom of the slip road, doubling back underneath the motorway & heading north. Passing through a sleepy village called Ghyvelde, you'll eventually come to a T junction. Turn right, continue along this road, past the old French border gatehouse in the middle of the road. Eventually on the right, you'll see a tatty looking filling station & cafe. Around the back of this filling station is what appears to be a very large garden shed. This place is the tobacco outlet for the guy who owns Eastenders in Calais. I'm not sure which is the more ferocious in the shop? The two resident Alsatian dogs or the old Doris who works there?!

There is no charge for this information apart from a pouch of Golden Virginia.......
