Hello

Absolute novice here

I've recorded an "audio commentary" of a TV show for the purpose of uploading to YouTube. The file is a 320kbs MP3. I'd like to edit it into a video of said programme.

I've already "ripped" the original DVD into a MKV file, but I can't find any good (free!) software to then mix my commentary in and **** around with it. I want something Windows Movie Maker-level simple but sadly MKV files aren't accepted by that software

Any suggestions? Thank you!

Okay, after downloading some codecs and stuff I have MKV files working in Windows Movie Maker. But it's not doing what I need, in fact, it's not very good.

I basically want to be able to import an MKV video file (90mins), and import 90 mins of audio files, and then place them over the top of the video. I'll need therefore to dim the volume of the video while the commentary takes place. Seems basic to me in 2014, but seems almost impossible to find for free online.

Can anyone recommend anything? Thanks again

Hello

Could you recommend some appropriate free video editing software that is best for the job?

Thanks

iMovie if you are using a Mac. Not sure what the nearest Windows equivalent is.
