I have driven to Frankfurt and back in a day, so it is certainly do-able.

Think it took us about 5 hours to get there after we landed in France

It's about a 5-6 hour drive from Calais or Boulogne, if you're not hanging about. 1-1.5 hours in France, 2-3 hours across Belgium, another 2 hours to Frankfurt from Aachen, at a guess, traffic permitting etc. would be my very approximate guesstimates.

And when you get there, cross over the river Main to Alt-Sachsenhausen and drink "apfelwein" - the local cider. You won't remember much the next day but it's good stuff.

This place is well worth a visit in Frankfurt.

The Schlachtplatte (Slaughter Plate) at 6 Euros is a bargain - everything you can eat on a pig with lashings of saurcraut and bread. Or the Eggs in Green Sauce - a farting delight. Washed down with apfelwein or Binding beer. Drunk waiters who've worked their for 40 years who'll refuse to serve you saur craut with eggs. Must be the fallout.
