I am rather foolishly driving through the centre of London tomorrow to Piccadilly. I have noticed you do not have to pay the CG at the week end. What is the best route from Brighton and how long would you reckon it will take leaving Brighton at around 11.30 am.

Thanks.

Its a pity one of the automobile associations such as the AA doesnt get involved in this sort of query. They could provide some sort of routefinder service maybe.

Check the traffic thingy on the BBC website before you leave but I'd agree with scooter1, straight up the M/A23 and through that way...nightmare time of day for a Saturday though...

I'd say more like 2.5 hours to be honest though...

Isn't it The Lord Mayor's Parade on Saturday?

No idea if this means the roads you want to use are closed, or if it will cause trafiic chaos though...

What about driving to Purley and catching the train?

Why would anyone want to drive to Cheltenham via Piccadilly?

Last time (and only time)I did it it took me just over 2.5. The drive up the A23 through Brixton Hill and Streatham has got to be one of the shittest journeys there is, even at midnight it still takes two hours to get from London to my house. I tried going up the A3 last week and it shaved about 10 minutes off, not sure if it's worth the extra milage though. I'd get the train

Why would anyone want to drive to Cheltenham via Piccadilly?

we drove back from leicester on a tuesday night once through central london, and suprisingly it only added about half an hour to the journey, and this included getting lost

however, seeing as we are heading WEST tomorrow, going through central london does seem a strange route to be taking

I went up to Clapham on the morning of the London to Brighton bike ride (so it was about 6am), took just over an hour going up the A217

Do not even bother trying to attempt the A23 on a Saturday. I live in Purley and drive to N London quite a lot. You'll end up queuing for Ikea for 3 hours without even realising it. Timewise, although a longer distance, I get into central London by going round the M25 to the A2 and coming under the Blackwall tunnel then head in too the City. Or I would go clockwise and take the A3 in and pass over Hammersmith at Barnes and along Bayswater. If it was me I would do the latter. I've driven into London a hell of a lot over the past 10 years and those two routes are the most reliable.
