Albion midfielder determined to prove doubters wrong
By Andy Naylor

Doug Loft has pledged to prove the doubters wrong by making his mark with Albion.

The former Hastings midfielder is determined to establish himself in the first team after signing a new one-year contract.

Loft reports back for pre-season training with the rest of the squad on Monday ready to confound sceptical supporters who felt he was fortunate to be awarded another deal.

Loft said: "This is the season when I am really going to break through. It's a relief to be staying and I am delighted. It has taken me time to settle down but now I want to prove what I can do."

Loft, 20, forced his way back into the side towards the end of last season after impressing in the reserves.

Some fans are still unconvinced by his potential but Loft believes it is the support of Dean Wilkins and his team-mates which really counts.

"It doesn't really bother me that much, because I know what I can do and the manager knows what I can do," he said.

"I know also that pretty much all the players think I have been doing really well."

Good to see that our players do notice some of the utter shit then gets shouted from the stands. The next Henderson, or the next Butters?

He should count himself lucky that he got a deal. He must be very good on the training pitch.

He certainly didn't do it when it counted.

Still new leaf and all that.

I would prefer El-Abdin midfield than Loft tbh.

And that says more about how shit Loft is than how good El-Abd is....

There's only one match I will sing for Loft. And that is Hastings (mainly because I think Hastings should have him back).

Bertin
Hopefully new signing
Hammond
Reid
Cox
Frutos
El-Abd
Fraser

Cant see Wilkins putting Loft ahead of that lot

I put Doug Loft in the same bracket as Marney, Wilkinson and the like. Havent and Waterlooville within 2 years. I'd be genuinely amazed if he becomes a 6 figure player who we can profit on. The only thing going for him is that at 20 he can improve.

Yep, no worse than the rest of the shower of shite we were subjected to at the back end of last season.

so that makes him good does it? I would love him to prove me wrong, but all I saw from Loft last year was lack of confidence and lack of responsibility and most importantly, lack of ability. I left the Doncaster match embarrassed to see that quality of player in the stripes and then when I came on here, people were suggesting that he played well?!

Now he will obviously score 10 goals from midfield and win POS:D

Jury is still out on Gully.

In the senior cup final ( rubbish opposition i know) he was man of the match & was pulling all the strings. If he can transfer that to the first team then i think he could do ok.

Dean has seen something in him & i trust deans judgement

I remember seeing a few of his rasping long-rangers in warm-ups and thinking he had some sort of touch to him. Whether he can take that from training to game is another matter, but i suppose confidence, methodology and a strength of purpose ought to see him more worthy of our watching.

You'd put Frutos & Fraser ahead of him? What on EARTH did you see from either of those two last season to justify that? As for El-Abd, he'll never play in midfield for us again!

Quick point too, you forgot Charlie. Bertin won't stay & we may not sign anyone else. I reckon lofty will be in the squad week in week out

dunno I'm lost
I think the guy deserves a fair crack at the whip this season. He hardly had much inspiration around him last year!

I must admit I was surprised he got another year, but good luck to the lad... you never know, he may come good... will trust Wendy's judgement and wait and see...
