I, for one, enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Completely agree that it's been super frustrating, as we've been so good. But it's been a really memorable season. It's been really exciting to see how we've played, and the rise of the likes of Sanchez, Lamptey, Webster, White, Moder, Veltman... and the arrival of Welbeck & Lallana.

I've enjoyed this season a lot. It's obviously been majorly tarnished by the absence of fans, but I still finding myself looking forward to the last two games, even though we'll probably lose, if only to see our talent developing.

I fear you are going to be disappointed next season too. It would be amazing if we could set the league on fire, but it's probably more the case of baby steps, as we lose our best players, but see our next rising starlets establish themselves (Zeqiri, Karbownic, Caicedo and others).

This is the proper way to run a football club, rather than relying on an old guard. It's going to be a long journey, but I'm absolutely confident the end destination will be worth it, as long as we can keep hold of Potter.

Great post!

The absence of fans ended up being fortunate for Potter, only 3 wins all season, he would have heard a lot of criticism from fans in the stadium. Stuck indoors, the home performances have merged with the better away ones in most of our minds

This is the last season for me blindly accepting

... and then what? You'll be raging?

It would be very interesting to see if you've got more tricks up your sleeve than passive-aggressive, cowardly double-interpretable comments insinuating the incompetence of owner, staff and players.

Dont think its going to happen though - think the team will do fine.

I agree with what a lot of people express, that the next season needs to better in terms of results, or it is probably the end of the journey for GP as the Brighton manager. Thats the reality of the job.

Can’t quite understand why anyone needs to feel “angry”. I read the post that GP is lucky that fans not in the stadium? That’s probably true .. I too am dreading the negative moaning , angst, because we haven’t won a game that we either deserved to or on paper “should win”. Whether you want to ignore the “blind optimism “ from some on here, the wider footballing public tell you what we are doing/trying to do and the way we have approached the season. Moments of frustration, yes, disappointed at times yes, exhilarated at times, yes, but angry and disappointed not to have the chance to vent that anger at the players? No.

He may not be the most charismatic manager but he is certainly one of the most honest and I wish him all the success whether here or anywhere else he chooses to go.

However his style of football though is charismatic for sure.

Nice article, sure will rattle a few cages here. Looks like the mainstream are starting to catch up as to what an exciting manager we have.

xG is a valid representation of a teams general performance. Mathematics will say that it we keep performing like that season on season the results will long term converge with xG predictions. You only have to look at the team and see the progress we’ve made technically and tactically. We have to look beyond short term results and see the bigger picture for where we’re going. People forget we’re still a young squad with many players stepping up to first team football at elite level for the first time.

An Albion mojo poll is in order. It’s a long long time since mine has been this low. We’ve scraped through another uninspiring season in the PL, vultures are circling our talent, the whole thing compounded by the relative seasons had by Leeds, Villa and even Palace ffs.

You know what he's like, if you're not throwing rose petals at GPott's feet you loathe him so he will twist everything else written.

To then agree with the sentiment is the oddest of all odd behaviour.

This is a real miserablist thread, isn’t it? How did that happen?
Hardly surprising, the frustrations are there for all to see.

As said I don't think (hope) it will become full blown miserablist in 12 months time, quite the reverse in fact.

Playing brilliantly (at times) and not getting the results or throwing them away has been so much more frustrating than playing shit and not getting results. I really hope that TB backs Potter in the summer even if that means selling a piece of the silver. I think we are only missing one or two pieces of the puzzle. I think we are heading in the right direction but christ its been painful this season.

Let's face it there's only one piece missing, a piece I thought Maupay would kick on and fill, and still might.

But the bottom line is up top.

Either Tony goes out and finally sees a deal through to it's (expensive) conclusion.
Or the team goes again and Mr Potter just has to get a better tune out of his attacking players.

I love Graham Potter as a person. The things he says and believes I can really relate to. I would love for him to be my boss or mentor in some way. I do think some people miss understand what he says sometimes. This is from the article.

Potter watched the Fulham-Burnley match. ‘Just because it’s on and you can’t do too much else at the moment,’ he says. When the game was over and Brighton’s future in the Premier League was secure, he had a glass of wine with his wife.

‘I was really, really happy because we have achieved what we started out to achieve, which was to stay in the division,’ he says. ‘That has to be the starting point and you have to build from there.

‘If you don’t think about that as being what our core business is, you can get yourself into trouble. We have been fighting to stay in it and we are disappointed with the points we have got but the performances have been really positive. It is still a reason to be happy, to celebrate, but also to know there is a lot of work to do.’

I like this as it says we set out stay in the division then build. I believe in this for many many years and next season is the same. Your first achievement will be to stay in the division then you build from there. The trouble is we haven't got to the 'We build from there part, this season.

Many people will ignore or play down the importance of we are disappointed with the points we have got, and jump on the but the performances have been really positive part. Later on in the article he says ‘For me, it has to be about the process as much as the outcome,’ says Potter. ‘I don’t see any other way to look at it.

I really like Potter as a person and want him to succeed with us, but part of that success (an important part) is to lead us into a top 10 team. Can he do it? I don't know but I hope he can.

This is an absolute nonsense post.

Almost every team in the Premier League has had a poor (by their respective standards) home record this season. Sheffield United’s tanked. Liverpool lost SIX in a row at home, having not lost any in years. Even THE Leeds lost at home to teamslikeBrighton.

But in our case, rather than the form being affected by the absence of fans, it was a ‘bonus’, because there was nobody there to get on the manager’s back?

Clown.

Technically it's not GPotts job to lead us into a top 10 team.

His bottom line is to move the Albion above a perennial relegation threatened bottom 6 team.
Ideally in a pretty fashion while making some money on the way.

WHICH IS WHY LEAGUE POSITION IS IMPORTANT!! (I can't believe that has to be shouted)

Whether he and his acolytes are still here when we're routinely threatening Everton is another matter, as in the master plan that's still a long way off.

I can't be arsed to read anything about our manager for now. The only thing I'm remotely interested about now are which players are likely to be off. I couldn't be arsed with the West Ham game and I won't bother with City or Arsenal either. I'm past caring.

This season has been infuriating and frustrating despite the fact we have played some lovely football at times, which means that as a fan I just haven't actually enjoyed it. I don't want another season where we play teams off the park, and either fail to protect a slender lead or fail to score against crap teams. For now, I'm happy to concede that this might not be GP's fault given the way his team tries to play football, that he is as frustrated as we are, and that actually he doesn't seem to have made that many mistakes in fairness, but please just spare me the articles insinuating what a breath of fresh air he is - until his teams can get results that the level of performance apparently deserves.

That's about where I am albeit I'll probably watch the city game as its Tuesday night and there isn't anything else to do. All I'm bothered about now is who is staying and who is going. I'm as much interested in moving on some of the players who aren't good enough or ready as keeping the stars of the show from this year. Keep the core and improving the obvious or losing Bissouma and White with a non strengthened forward line is the difference between 16-20 or top 10 next year no matter what GP does behind the scenes.

Lol well actually I think you’ll find 3 home wins all season is very good!

And a team who finished stone last in the Premiership also had terrible home form! Stay tuned for more stunning insights, this is why NSC is great
