12 promotions since birth 23 years ago are Dorking Wanderers about to become the next crazy gang? Playing Oldham next season in the National league.

Went to their promotion playoff today.
Really tense affair, as you would expect, with both sides cancelling each other out for long periods.
1.1 at half time, 2nd half saw very few clear cut chances before the game burst into life in the 6 minutes of injury time.
Ebbsfleet looked to have won it, going 2.1 ahead in the 90th minute. Game was then held up for 2 minutes whilst a flare was removed from the pitch.
And then in the 98th minute with the last kick of the game Dorking made it 2.2.
A fine finish from Alfie Rutherford in the first period of extra time put Dorking ahead 3.2 and they saw out the remaining minutes relatively comfortably.
Will be interesting to see how they fare next season.

I used to live in Dorking when I still lived at home. Their clubhouse was next to I think The Malthouse pub. I used to drink there sometimes. Always a coach of Sutton lads down looking for fights. The football team and supporters usually obliged.

I used to enjoy watching them play.

Dorking though, lovely to look at, bit of a toilet in other respects.

West Sussex League 4 North. To give you an idea of how bad that is, I played against them a few times when I played for Sun Alliance.

Yeah, I played against them too, thought it was more than 23 years ago and in Div two then?
They moved to the west Sussex league, because the Surrey ones were not at the same level from memory.
Can't seem to find much internet history on the West Sussex leagues.
Does anyone know any sites of tables and results of 1980-1999???

I worked there for eight years from 2000 and would agree with the last bit. Funny old place.

In the pub ? Or elsewhere in Dorking? I had some odd years there as a teenager. I go back about once a year to see friends and yeah, it’s an odd old town.
Good and bad memories in equal measure.

I walked into a shop in Dorking, to be greeted with " and you can f*** *ff", this was pre NSC, so he wasn't tipped off.

On the plus side it does have a big cock.

I grew up in Dorking too (well one of the villages just outside), and remember watching Wanderers predecessors from the car park behind M&S when they played Plymouth in the first round of the cup!

The Malthouse is long gone now. After it lost it's license it spent time as a youth center... which always seemed a bit ironic to me. 🤣

I've been meaning to pay a visit to Meadowbank for a while now as I want to see what the ground is like since it was redeveloped. I was supposed to do an FA safeguarding course there, but the pandemic intervened.

Hi, Dorking Town used to play at Meadowbank, but they folded and that left a gap for the Wanderers to move home.

I wanted to go (I only live 7 miles away) but couldn't get a ticket so followed it on text. Gave up when it went 1-2 so I assumed they'd lost. Delighted to read this!

The last time I saw Dorking was at St Francis Rangers in County 3. Absolute mud bath and a fairly depressing watch where Dorking scored quite a few. Thought it was hilarious at the time how many people they had coaching/on the bench when they were playing a team I think I could still have got a game for. Guess this shows why! I have a friend that played for Marc White at some point during their rise and he can’t say enough good things about him.
