Not sure about that.

I thought I'd been at a bank holiday afternoon game against Charlton in the late 70s when more than 34,000 turned up. There must have been several gates above 25,485 in that era.

I'm sure there was a match against Rochdale in 1972 with a higher attendance.

What was it about this game that attracted so many? The first chance to escape the house after Christmas? There can't have been much riding on the game at that stage of the season?

Johnny Haynes playing at The Goldstone Ground - for one?

If we assume we more or less sell out every home, and with the potential large crowds at away games (Leeds, Derby, West Ham, Soton, Birmingham etc) will this season see the biggest number fo fans to watch the Albion in one season?

Hmm maybe not, with 190,000 watching 2 Cup Finals in '83. League matches then?

The Boxing Day 1958 game vs Fulham is always credited to have been our record attendance but I will always maintain until my last breath that the crowd for Div III South promotion game vs Watford was larger as the ground was full and the cinder track around the Goldstone was full of children. Any other old timers remember this?

Surely it will be the biggest demand on tickets since Uncle Dick persuaded Samuel L. Jackson to make an appearence at Withdean?

Rochdale 1972 at the Goldstone 34,766 1-1 promotion night. The roar after John Templemans goal could be heard on Hove seafront. Can picture it all to this day. Happy days.

No way, over 32k v Hammers in 78/79, over 33k v Blackpool in 77/8, 30+k v Charlton in 78/79 and Shef Weds in 76/7 and nearly 33k for both Spurs and Saints in 77/8.

The Donny game wont be a sellout , 40 odd seats gone from the North Stand , 2 rows of missing seats at the top of WSU , away end not full , no CHIPS. Attendance may fall under 21k.

That looks more like a chronological progression of the record home league crowd. Obviously nothing has topped the Fulham game which explains nothing appearing on the list after this date.

Just looking at some of these figures reminds me again of how much I would have loved to have been at some of those 77/78 and 78/79 games, having started going the season after. Must have been brilliant.
