Kind of like giving blood isn't it? I faint - on average every time I have to give blood.....So it really isn't for me unless people are desperate for my blood type....

I had blood taken when I was 8 months pregnant and whoopsy over I went

They take the blood out of your arm, spin it and remove the platelets and then the blood minus platelets goes back into your arm. It takes longer than giving blood as well.

It has always made my nose tingle which I am told is fairly common.

My little girl was given platelets 72 times in her life and she would not have survived as long as she did without it. So it's hugely important and really does make a difference to someone's life.

I joined the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust yonks ago when I was a teenager and was called to give platelets as part of a bone marrow transplant. It took around 3 hours then but probably is a much quicker procedure now.

I would strongly recommend all NSC'ers to get themselves on the register for this VERY worthwhile cause - you know it makes sense

I've just signed up to donate my precious platelets once a month.

Anyone else do this - what is your experience?
Good points/Bad points?
It takes much longer than giving blood but it's painless and the nursing staff are very grateful ;)

Well played for signing up.
