Do any of you fine folks have experience of eating there recently? If so, what's the food like and would you recommend it?

We've only been once, a couple of months ago, and to be honest, I wasn't that impressed. We were stuck down in what looks like a extension, with no atmosphere or character. Maybe it would have been better in the main part of the restaurant, but the food wasn't any better than our local Pizza Express.

there are much better places to eat than there, but its cheap and cheerful, and if thats all you expect of it, then it is fine

Where would you recommend Mr. Mendoza?

Last time we went to Donatellos, my son was wearing his albion shirt and he was given a massive cake for free.

I much prefer Topolino Duo on Church Rd. They have a big tv screen and will show all football matches, if you are ever stuck for somewhere to watch the football and eat. Their pizzas are far superior to Donatello.

Have a stroll past Donatellos when their food delivery arrives first thing in the morning. Everything out of huge tins.

Plus you can sit at the table where Mark McGhee was sacked, a must for an DIE HARD Albion fan.

Avoid.
Particularly if in a large group, hoping to impress someone or visiting at a busy time. Food is poor and service is just as bad. For somewhere run by a real Italian, it certainly doesn't come accross like that when visiting.

Donatello Brighton - Restaurant Review and Information
There's a lot of less than satisfied customers reviewing it.

I would also stress that you should not be lured in by the staff of Opposition restaurant near by. Food is average, service poor and you're likely to end up in an argument with the management with regard to pricing errors on the bill.

Sylvia's is one of the better reviews on there but she states she ate seafood washed down with House red. clearly the woman knows f*** all about dining and her and her pizza guzzling off-spring should be locked up at home.

If you are talking about Fat Leo, then it is owned by the Addis family as well.

Cheers guys, seems like this might not be the best option for what I'm looking for.

No, it's actually called Opposition. You'd know it if you saw it. They've frequently got people touting for business on the street.

FAT Leo incidentally, is cheap and cheerful. I believe that each son has a restaurant. Fratelli and Pinnochio being part of the Addis family empire. I might be wrong though. I am sure we have discussed this before BoF cos you went to school with some of the clan??

Absolutely, FAR better than Donatellos. We had (one) of my daughter's 18th parties in there a few years ago and it was brilliant - they couldn't have been more helpful.
