You changed your tune anyway from your earlier stance of being absolutely adamant that it was deliberate and that the bloke deserved death upon him. What changed? Medication?

Found Allah in between.

Great. So even if you believe it was a complete accident, he's clearly stupid to tie a dog to the bumper, drive off, not notice etc.

He is claiming that it was a stray dog who had escaped its owner, and that as he drove past the dog, the dog's lead got caught up in his engine.

The 33-year-old Worthing man’s solicitor said his client was driving down a country road on his way home from London.

He added: “The dog had got loose that afternoon while it was being taken for a walk and was in the middle of the road.

“It was wearing a leash which extended several metres in length.

“While he was driving past the leash became entangled in the exhaust system of the vehicle, dragging the dog behind him.

“The driver was completely unaware of what had happened.

"He stopped to check his car several times because he heard a sound and thought there might be something wrong with his brakes.

"However he did not see the animal behind him.

“He went to the car park near Devil’s Dyke because he wanted to use the toilet at a nearby pub.

"He turned round in the car park and drove on.

“Eventually the driver stopped at the lay-by by Southwick Tunnel because people had been flashing and hooting at him.

“He untied the animal, but did not even realise it was a dog. He was so shocked by it he drove away.

“My client is a dog lover and is completely devastated by what has happened.”

The man’s wife, xxxx xxxxxx, 42, said she had loaned her Belgian husband her £40,000 car, and convinced him to hand himself in to police after The Argus broke the story on Monday evening (November 21).

She said: “Stupidly, he told me that because the dog was dead, there was nothing he could do for it, so he dumped it in the lay-by.

“He’s from Belgium and didn’t realise that he should have reported it to the police.”

I think there's a cautionary tale here for some people. If (and it is a big 'if') it is all an accident then think what this poor bloke is going through with death threats to him and his family right now.

Anyone who's taken the time and trouble to contact him personally and make a death threat obviously isn't right in the head and faces prosecution themselves. Has anyone actually done this since you've followed this story very closely it would seem Ponce?

It's the bit where the police and RSPCA have said that he's had threats against him, so I'm guessing yes he has had death threats. Also the Argus headlines about him facing death threats. I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into it but I think he may have had death threats. What do you think?

So, at no point on any of those occasions did he actually get out and walk around his car to see if there was something awry?

I don't know about the rest of you, but when I've pulled over in the past because my car is making a strange sound, I walk around it and check under it to see if there is anything visibly wrong before driving on.....

Or someone on a message board said "hang this scum" and that's being reported as a death threat being made.

I very much doubt anyone is seriously going to harm him. Christ, there'd be no brighton supporters left (maybe Lord B? :)) if all the threats that have been proposed on NSC down the years were carried out!!!

They might damage his beloved Porsche though.

If that is his excuse, I reckon his name must be Hans Christian Anderson

That's not a death threat though is it? It's an opinion, a comment the like of which comes up in newspaper comments, opinion and letters page every single day. Unless someone says I'm going to kill so and so because..... As I said, nobody be left on NSC if every such threat was carried out. Nor Palace e.g. "kill the scum, death to the scum type comments..." there must have been literally thousands such sentiments expressed down the years. Can't recall any actual murders though?!!
