As someone pointed out at my work, they gave him a platinum disc of the album. How much is that worth? Vastly more than $150k. You're talking millions for a platinum disc of one of the world's iconic albums.

Of course, if he was to announce that he had destroyed it because it was pornographic, I might take his other claims more seriously ...

Nah. The record company made it - and no doubt many, many others - to give away.

Only industry issued awards (RIAA in the States) would have significant value.

Has all the attributes of a frivolous law suit to me. He needs money, the surviving members of Nirvana have some.

It is a shame he feels his life has been ruined by the picture and I wouldn't comment any further until I knew more about his side of the story. If however there is no record of signed release and it was just cash in hand then legally he maybe able to claim some money through that.

Surely he would have more of a claim for image rights and back pay for such, unless of course his parents were already being paid for this, even if they had signed a waiver, he would probably have more of a case than to claim for child pornography.

I guess his life has hit a rut and he feels like he deserves something from his one moment of game, considering that so many others have made a lot of money out of it, the image is iconic even if it's obviously the music that made it such a great album. Probably he wanted to claim some royalties but his lawyers (rightly) think that will go nowhere so it's become this sexual exploitation case. How much he really agrees with that who knows, but he's obviously desperate. Perhaps they're hoping for some out of court settlement or some paid for interviews, who knows. It's frivolous at face value but if you think you've got nothing to lose.... Unfortunately it's likely to send him spiralling even further

As has been said he has recreated it several times since, so obviously didn’t feel ‘exploited’ then.

Also was quoted a few years ago that being an aspiring artist it has opened doors for him and allowed him to work with people he wouldn’t have done otherwise.

Seems a little bit to me that he has milked it for everything and now this is his last effort to get some more

$150k seems quite a low amount. I assume that either he thought they would pay up to make it go away or it is all a PR stunt for the 30th anniversary.

...but back to the case, it's clearly a money making scheme, I've seen interviews in the past where he said it opened doors to him and he wouldn't have been as successful without it.

As for child porn claims, that's ridiculous, there's clearly no sexual intent in the image so it isn't porn.

Nudity alone doesn't make something pornography.

Crikey, best go nowhere near Scorpions Virgin Killer then, what were they thinking?

*I thought twice about posting the image, and took the second option, click here to see the album cover. NSFW https://www.cdandlp.com/en/scorpions/virgin-killer/lp/r115921593/

Hadn't seen this when I posted. Virgin Killer actually cause wikipedia to be blocked for a while by the Internet Watch Foundation because of their article on the album. The decision was reversed quickly though.
