Leeds - but not the dirty bit
Too many times he tries to punch and does not look confident on crosses.

Hurry back Brez.

Didn't think he did too much wrong yesterday. He wasn't at fault for their goal which was an acute angle into the bottom left corner.

All 'keepers need time to work with their defence when they come to a new club. He needs more time before we can really judge him.

Ankergren would be on a fair salary for a No 2 I'd guess, so I thought he'd be first choice when we signed him. He's on a three-year deal too?

Brez was very good in parts last season but he had his 'moments' too, even late on e.g. Carlisle at home.

Not sure how goalkeeing selection will play out this season. One of several unknowns i the squad.

I thought he was pretty solid yesterday and made some decent saves, only punched the ball once from what I remember. Get off his case.

I thought he played well yesterday - & made a great save in front of The Kop to keep us in the game in the 2nd half. It appears I was at a different game to the thread starter.

He's not saying that he did anything wrong yesterday!

Read the thread people!

He is asking if he inspires confidence?

Does anyone else think it is moronic for supposedly grown men to call Ankergren names like "Flappergren" and "Wankergren"? I am sure they think they are hilarious but to me it is just juvenile and pathetic. The guy is our goalkeeper for gods sake. Why not give him a chance to work with our defence for a while rather than slag him off after he has had a good game?

Well call me old fashioned, but when somebody starts a thread referring to him as Flappergren; says that "Too many times he tries to punch and does not look confident on crosses"; & ends it with a plea for an injured goalkeeper to make a pronto return: it aint much of a resounding endorsement for yesterday's efforts now, is it?

Where in the post does he refer to yesterdays game though??

Just stating what appear to be facts about a player that any Leeds fan will confirm.

In general Casper is a "Flapper" and did flap on occasions yesterday. FACT.

I'll be fair and have only seen him live yesterday. But everytime they crossed the ball I got this impending sense that he was going to Flap/drop/try to punch the ball.

So I'll actually answer the thread starters Q and say no he doesn't inspire confidence in me.

It is funny how people go in with preconceptions and don't actually watch the game or go along with the majority. If Ankergren hadn't made the mistake last week, I bet half the people on here would not be saying that he looked insecure but as he made one mistake, he must always be dodgy. For what it's worth, I thought Ankergren played well yesterday but no doubt you will say I am wrong.

The thing I like most about this thread, is that people assume Brez is a brilliant goalkeeper and all will be better when he gets back in the side. Ankergren = Brezovan. We've got two back up goalkeepers, they're both quite good on their day but they aren't a Joe Lewis who is going to gain you 10 points a season. Which is why some people need to lower their sights a bit, we're still a long way short of being a top 6 team. But it doesn't mean we can't evolve into one over the season. When we've got our back 4 playing regularly with Calderon, Elphick, Greer and Painter playing every game, our defence will just naturally improve and we'll stop seeing our goalkeepers under so much pressure. Our defence has changed every game, you don't get consistency if you do that. Just think back to when Micky came in and we had different Albion teams every week.

Is this some kind of Padantic Half Hour I've unwittingly ventured into? :p

OK, have it your way. I'll say that after yesterday's competant performance, Casper Ankergren inspired my confidence in him.

From what I have seen on their forums, they thought Ankergren was dodgy and were glad he was released. Brezovan was really good for us when he came back in to the side last season and Poke and Walker are decent options so this is a pointless thread.

Gus will decide in time

Why would I say you are wrong? Its your opinion. How can that be wrong?

I also thought that he played well.

I was saying that I wasn't a hundred % confident by him.

Unlike alot of others I have alot of Leeds fans as friends and have reliable opinions of him from his time there.

He made two excellent reaction saves yesterday, but he did also seem unsure whenever the ball was crossed into the box and I think it is reasonable to ask whether he does inspire confidence. Time will tell. Also his distribution wasn't that good. Sheff Wed made sure Calderon was not available for throw-outs, so he often ended up punting it hopefully towards Murray, and possession was lost.
