Glass Case of EMOTION
Just got back from Chase Vetinary centre in Bexhill, where I've sadly just had the family cat put down. We've had him for 12 years last July, so today is a very sad day for the Rodders household. The reason for him being put down was that he was very poorly after some cat from our neighbourhood attacked him and gave him feline aids. It was the best thing to do but also very sad.

After getting back, I looked to where he usually laid in the sun, and there was nothing and to be honest I feel pretty numb, like the house is missing something.

Have you got a pet and do you think every family needs a pet ?

I'm pondering whether to get a dog or not now.

Rodders :(

Mine is getting on a little now. But when she finally dies she will be replaced by another rescued cat from the cpl or similar, possibly even the stray who has taken up semi-permanent residence in my garden right now.

Sad Rodders, best thing is to get another after a suitable period of grieving. I do like having the dogs around but its not always practical. Rather have one than not though.

We have had cats for as long as I can remember.

When our last cat had to be put down ( she developed stomach cancer) I had to take her in to the Vets and was there when she was put to sleep. I was heartbroken as she had been part of our lives for 10 ish years and it took me an the family a while to get over her.

A few weeks later we went to teh RSPCA and got another one....which we still have. Abbey is a heinz 57, has a tummy problem so all we can feed her is these special biscuits or she throws up everywhere....poor thing.

I recommend you wait a week or two and then pop down the rescue centre/ RSPCA and get another one.

My cat is 15 years old now and still going strong, I dread the day I have to take her to be put down.

Sorry to hear your sad news Rodders. We had our cat put down a few weeks back and we're still coming to terms with it. As stupid as it sounds it really helped when the ashes were returned to us. Closure I guess.

At the moment we couldn't contemplate getting another one, but I expect we will eventually as our home feels quite empty without her around!

Old Smudge was put down about 3 months ago. We rescued her after she had been beaten up and kicked out. She lived to 19 years old! I still expect to see her bounding up to me when I visit the folks, or meow for some milk. :(

Very sad news and I am sorry to hear that, Rodders.

Sorry to hear that mate, We had one of the family dogs put down last year. We now have 2 more as the house wouldn't be the same without them. I still expect her to be at the bottom of the stairs when I come downstairs on a saturday morning, So much so that I still step over that space where she usually was. :(

It was horrible when our cat had to be put down. She was diagnosed with feline Aids also, just as Rodders cat was, but eventually the vet realized that the cat had bad exzema and an allegry to flea bites and the drops we put on her to get the fleas.. Mum and Dad haven't got another pet since she went...

We can't have a pet as much as we'd love a dog, we go away racing for weekends at a time and dogs aren't allowed on racetracks...

I didn't think I'd be that choked when our dog had to be put down, but I was. Always a sad time.

As for every family needing a pet, NO WAY. Some parents can't be bothered with their kids, so what makes you think they'd look after their pets?

as 10cc say, not in hove
every home needs a pet, that's for sure.

our three legged almost blind cat hardly ever moves, hasn't been outside in 3 years and just sits there, but she's part of the family (or more properly the furniture!)

I'm sorry about your cat :(

We have lots of pets and I do sort of believe every home needs a pet or two.

Sorry to hear that Rodders, I've had to have a few cats put down in the past and it's never easy to say goodbye to them. I've got a 15yr old Cat & a 6 month old Kitten plus a 3yr old Dog at the moment, And I have to say the Dog is the hardest work and the most time consuming of all the pets. I don't think it's essential to have a pet, but when you've been used to having one around the house it seems strange without one.

Am I being thick or are you talking about a snake?

for some who lives with six cats damn right you need a pet.
get a cat now or even two they go well in pairs and after your experience get it or then insured.

our squeak says get a cat or she will haunt you forever.
