Does anybody else think the timing of McGhee'ss dismissal is strange

Why has Dick Knight, who supported McGhee over the summer now decided to get rid of him. The timing to me seems very strange. We have only lost 3 games and although we were very poor against Bristol City it doesn't really make sense. To replace him just after the transfer window has closed is also confusing, it would have made far more sense to have done it over the summer or given him at least another 5 games. Finally to do it on a friday the day before a game again seems odd, why didn't he do it on sunday or monday after the Bristol City match. This would have given Dean Wilkins the maximum amount of time to prepare for Millwall tomorrow.

Anyway what I am really getting at is, that I believe something must have happened for Knight to do this. The most obvious reasons being;

1) Knight and McGhee have had an arguement that resulted in the parting of ways.

or

2) Knight has lined somebody up for the job, so has had to get McGhee out of the way

of course I might be totally wrong!

There is other options. The Blooms have made no secret of their dislike of MM. The last thing the club needs at this time is a board room battle. I think DK saw the response from the fans, looked at the rest of the board and said to himself, get rid of Mark and keep control, or keep him, battle for control and end up even more in the shit then we already are.

None of the above (although Wardywonderland is sniffing the coffee).

If DK had sacked MM in the summer, this would have been trumpeted by the likes of Ian Hart as a sign that the Blooms had taken over control of the Club (which they haven't).

Doing it now (and, I guess, without consulting the Blooms - everyone knows that they wanted McGhee out, so why bother asking them?) presents a quite different story. Uncle Dick runs this football club. And he's responsive to the fans.

Critical moments were Attila's rant and the booing of McGhee's decision to substitute Revell.

Knight sacked McGhee because he was worried about two things:

The fans turning their flack towards him

Losing control at the Albion.

Nothing else. Anyone who heard him on the radio this morning ranting about how he will only give up when he wants to will realise how much he wants to cling onto power, possibly for all the right reasons. He is a determined man and the fact that he thought McGhee was the right man for the job didn't matter a jot when he thought he was endangering his position.

So please everyone realise he hasn't done this for us the fans, he has done it for himself which in turn may be for the good of the club, if you believe he is the only man that can deliver Falmer.

Personally I think that last part is nonsense but a very useful tool to use to support DK. If you want a new stadium guys get behind me or else god knows what might happen. He may be right, but he may well not be.

Ultimately what I do know is that the lack of signings across the summer are not McGhees fault. The dodgy team selection and treatment of some players was however. But don't blame McGhee for it all when Knight must shoulder some of the blame.

if knight had sacked him over the summer ot would have meant that the new manager might have actually wanted some money to sign players with and he can't have that...thats why he's waited until the transfer window is closed...

Can't fault this at all, todays sacking smacks of a panic move

Just what I was thinking. Surely it can't mean that post on here a couple of weeks ago? Is that really how we're being run?

Anyway, I agree with the basic premise of this thread. It's odd timing. If he was going to go (for low morale, bizarre man-management, substitutions, and all the rest), June would have been much better.

If Knight was really going to give him a chance to turn it around, the start of September isn't long enough.

Sorry LB but to cite Attila's rant as a moment is just balderdash - the writing was on the wall long before that.

But why today not Monday? did something happen behind the scenes this week? have we not sold many Millwall tickets? did MM have no-one lined up to come in on loan?

The writing was certainly on the wall. DK, however, wasn't reading it as anything other than the views of a minority.

I was there when Attila delivered his rant. The thing that hit home wasn't just what he said. It was that nobody disagreed. I think DK was genuinely shocked by that.

The point I made about the crowd's reaction at the Crewe game is confirmed in tomorrow's Argus:-
