My local Rugby League side (Bridgend Blue Bulls) recently lost to another Welsh side for the first time ever (3 years since formation), but the ref looks a bit dodgy from the report. Here's an extract from the local rag:
The Bridgend Blue Bulls' proud record of never having lost to a Welsh team was controversially ended in a tough and contentious game at Pontypool.
The Blue Bulls can justly feel aggrieved at the way their record went as a referee officiating the game had never before had charge of an adult game.
He also wore an identically-coloured jersey to that of the Blue Bulls and refused the offer of an alternative - despite a rule that the referee must wear a jersay of a different colour to that of the two teams.
This caused confusion in the Blue Bulls' defensive line-up and led to numerous penalties being awarded against them.
he referee also ruled out the conversion of the last Blue Bulls' try, which would have tied the scores, despite both touch judges putting their flags up as the ball sailed through the posts.
The Blue Bulls had to lend the Tigers wo players to complete their line up - and both scored tries!
