Who would you rather have seen in the defence this coming season ?

Personally for me I think Dodd (with all his experience) myself.

Given that El Abd and Hinsh are both still learning, I would say Dodd. On the other hand, I'd MUCH rather have Harding than Mayo who is going to be hopelessly out of his depth. And that is a real worry...

Probably Dodd in the short-term, but in the longer term Harding as I think he will go on to become a very good player, unfortunately not with us:angry:

I cannot remember seeing Dodd play, last time I saw Southampton was when we lost 0.3 in the League cup and Wayne Bridge's performance stuck in my memory. I cannot remember Dodd.

But as Harding has gone to "better things" I'll go for Dodd as he wants to be here as long as he meets the ball unlike Dan who love to let it bounce to give a speedy forward a better chance of skinning him.

Dodd will be much better for us next season than Harding would have been. I fully expect Harding to have a mare at Leeds and end up on some Div 1 side scrapheap in years to come. He had all of 5 decent games to 15 awful ones last season.

As for saying Mayo will be out of his depth, that is way off the mark, he may not set the world alight but he will always be fairly consistent. He was ok last year when calle upon and great 2 years ago.

I agree with both points

Kerry Mayo is a great servant of the club, and we all like him. However, his complete lack of pace rules him out at this level, and restricts our attacking options because the midfield have to shield him. We now need another Left Back to go with the rest of the shopping list.

dodd is a right back/ central defender who can play left back, who is playing 1 more season before retiring.

Harding is a under 21 international left back who has as not yet fulfilled his potential.

personally I prefer dodd, we have quite a few young players in our team and another experienced pro will help the youngsters - if butters got injured the average age of our defence would shoot down to about 12..

obviously if he turns out to be gash then I will refute ever rating him..

But with Dodd and Butters playing it will be over 30! How quick is Dodd at 34?

will the real Dan Harding please stand up !!
A fully focused Harding would have been amazing. Towards the end of the season his performances really picked up and he looked like the player everyone was making him out to be. However that is now alas.......History

I have no worries about kerry i think he will be fine But i do think the quicker Hinsh is back the better

Dodd has it all to prove for me.....he has a clean slate

Where is everyone getting this Harding probably great player garbage? Its the biggest ever case of emperors new clothes I have seen imo.

Peter Taylor picked him for the U21s because of loads of injuries and he knew him from being Manager here.

If Taylor hadnt been his boss once hed have got nowhere near the U21s.

He never even played that well for the U21s, consistent but not amazing.

Last season he played well on only a handfull of occasions and on others was dreadful.

He has NEVER looked better than Hinsh, Virgs, or El Abd. FACT.

Anything over £300k and we are laughing. A year ago if youd have claimed we would get that much youd have got laughed at.

I never slagged him at games but always aired my doubts about him as a defender here. He is half decent in left midfield, but has a lot to learn as a full back. Glad he got the winner against Rotherham though, that was his best moment in an Albion shirt.

Bollox. He was NEVER worthy of an England place. It was debatable whether he ever worthy of a regular Albion place. For those with eyes to see, that is. The Leeds fans to their new found expensive signing is going to be one of the more chucle-worthy aspects of the new season. Ha. Er, ha.
