The posties are the union and the Union is the posties. The postmen voted for the strike. They didn't WANT to strike, but felt they been dealt such a shit hand over the years, that something needed to be done. The (the posties) care about the service, as should you. But you're supporting the side who want to destroy it.

Royal Mail's beheviour is not acceptable to people who have worked for years in the business and know how to run a mail service. The management are setting the company up for a fall, worsening the service, while the top bosses clean up with their salary bonuses, all the while screwing over the people who have worked for years endeavouring to bring a proper service while having one hand tied behind their backs with lesser working conditions, and you want to kick the Union's teeth in? Sweet Jesus.

Agree completely (and yes, it is really me posting). The posties really have been and really are being shafted here.

These blokes aren't striking for the love of it and I'm betting that most of them can ill-afford to strike either. They have mortgages to pay, families to feed. I know I couldn't afford to and I earn substantially more than a postie. They're doing it because if they don't then they won't have a job and we won't have a postal service worthy of a 1st world country.

Those people saying that they are holding the country to ransom - look at the real reasons why and also ask yourself what else the posties can do. What would you do in their position - and please, no crap about finding another job. Most posties are there from school leaving age. Would you want to take on a McJob or fight for the job that you have?

Talks broke down after 8 (eight) days apparently. Hardly the CWU giving the RM a lot of time is it.

All the major services seem to be striking, whats the odds that Paramedics will be next for a couple of days off? (The police can't - or never used to be allowed - due to part of their contract)

P.S. I hate Unions, £10 a month for something you'll never use, and never actually works? f*** it, I'll spend that killing my liver thank you (and a lot more).

When was the last time milkmen had a strike? I'm sure their working conditions are worse than those of a posty.

Aren't milko's now all self employed, which would make strike action a little bit silly

Err, no! Several are still on "managed" rounds, as apose to "franchised".

Strike action is silly anyway.

Do you, personally, actually belief this strike action will help your cause? (Not a personal attack, just after the opinion of someone who is in the "front line" - or armchair ;) )

Around the country there are a few private firms, I know of a couple in London. I had to move one of them out of the Olympic area. But generally they have contracts or are self employed.

Heavens a-f***ing-bove. What are you on today? Who else is on strike?

And why are you so keen to blame the union for the break down of talks? Actually, I know - you hate unions. But this nonsense has been going on for YEARS. You are actively supporting the destruction of the postal service as we know it. Yet you blame the unions.

Seeing as you don't support Unions, you obviously disagree with what they stand for, like job griveance support, disciplinary procedural support, education and re-habilitation, illness and injury cover, helpful perks, such as favourable home, car and health insurance from certain companies. Yet you don't want people to have that. Why is that?

For me, being anti-Union gives you as much right to criticise what is going on as someone who is anti-football to criticise Falmer. In other words, you have a pre-conceived idea as to what is happening here, irrespective of the truth, and you only want to see one side of the story. If you want to get screwed over with your job with no assistance from anybody, that's entirely up to you, but others in their lives don't.

You'd rather die of drinking, it seems.

Agree with you here.

The Post Office is a classic example of part privisation, the revenue bits have been tendered out leaving joe public to fund the rump.

The queues in our remaining local Post Office are reminiscent of Wembley on match day.

We already get deliveries after 10.00. At least once a week now we have to pop down to the sorting office to pick something up.

Can some one explain to me, why domestic post is delivered so late in the day, when half the population work 9-5, so we are not in for parcels etc.

And businesses received their post early in the day, when the majority are open 8-6 and longer?

What type of crap planning is that?

That is down to unfair competition, cutbacks and poor management.

That's about right.

Actually, I think I probably f***ed up on what I meant to say. I hate unions, when they go heavy-handed and threaten strike action (tubes, firemen, posties, whomever). Unions have done some good, but of late they appear to be too quick to threaten strike action. Nearly a week on strike is verging on being silly.

Anyway, must actually do some work today. I'll be back when I get bored (10 mins). Cheerioski comrades.

So it's the CWU's fault the talks have broken is it? How the hell do you know that? There are two sides in this dispute unless you have forgotten, it could well be Royal Mail that have caused the talks to break down too.

The strikes have already helped our cause, they have brought an employer who was not willing to negotiate to the table, also many of the conditions that the employer sought to force upon us have been dropped. RM originally offrered us an unconsolidated lump sum as pay, that has now gone up to 6.9% over a two years I believe.
The only trouble now is that RM have said we can have that pay rise if we agree to our pensions being reduced. I for one would rather my pension is protected than have a pay rise.
