I still don't think I'm over it.

Virgo was a superb athlete and scored that memorable goal. It is sometimes worth playing players out of position. Sam Vokes as a central defender I don't rate him as a striker.
It was quite an amusing season. In hindsight.
Matt Richards gobbing off at the South Stand as he put in 100 crosses against 9 man Walsall and not 1 was any good. Happy times.
What I remember of that was the tragic post-match interview from Micky that laid the blame of that defeat on the quality of crossing.
When do you EVER see a match where a team go down to 10 men (never mind 9) and teh commentators say "well, now is the time to start slinging in crosses." Nope, never. We all know, you move the ball around, make the pitch big, exploit the space, tire the opposition by making them chase around after you. Not just blindly sling in cross after cross. It seemed the players were just not following orders, and then Micky's interview and erm, ah, they were the orders.
Horrific tactical failings, just horrific.
My "highlight" was the Kevin Thornton Debacle. Singled-handedly ran Cheltenham ragged at Withdean (defensive errors cost us and we drew 3-3) and put in the best performance of an Albion player that season. His reward? Benched for the next 4 matches. You couldn't make it up.

There are examples of player getting new positions and excelling: e.g. Ray Kennedy.
and even different sports; Joe Gatting (maybe he could be still playing football under the right Manager )[/QUOTE
virgo was put up front by mcghee. it made him into a million pound player!!!!!
Alledgedly, that MIGHT have had something to do with Thornton's off-field mabits. Alledgedly.

Yep, and I remember they being the story. Thornton was a "bad influence in the dressing room"......... so........ we renewed his loan.... and continued to NOT play him.
Thus, getting all the negatives (i.e. his bad influence) and NONE of the benefits - his quality on the pitch.
If anything sums up the muddled absurdity of Micky Adams that season its the Kevin Thornton story.
