Finally, we are also aware of a very small number of fans who chose to continue to ignore stadium rules by bringing flasks into the stadium, or by concealing bottle tops for use later. Anyone doing this is liable to ejection from the stadium and further stadium and ticketing sanctions. The club will not issue any further warnings.

When I got this email it made my blood boil . The very minor incidents involving a few Chelsea fans are being used to basically oppress us further . Okay there are bigger things going on in the world today but I am angry as all these decisions are more revenue focused than related to safety issues . Brighton happily serve expensive alcohol to pissed up idiots who've had too much already but won't let an OAP bring in a flask of tea . Hypocrites.

It's as though a major incident has happened at a game . Has it ? No . Now we can't bring bottle tops or flasks . Have they completely lost the plot ? They are threatening to ban people who bring flasks . Have they gone mad ? Take a step back and look at what you are actually saying for goodness sake . It just creates a bad feeling . " the club will not issue any further warnings ? " Or what - you going to line us up against the wall and shoot us ? It sounds like that .


Remember we are the customers - you are the lucky recipients of our time, loyalty and money . Without us you are nothing . So stop treating us like naughty children and treat us like customers .

Not just at Amex, stadiums now are far more stringent about what can be brought in, they haven’t banned bags yet which a fair number of stadiums have.

I have to say this is bothering me too. The solution is probably to protest by not buying anything at the concessions. I'm pretty sure they'll revisit this crap money-grabbing policy when it starts costing them sales at concessions stalls.

The club are following procedures to ensure the safety of you and I. From being searched at the turnstiles, to not taking in flasks, and not allowing bottles with tops on. Inconvenient it may be, but that’s all it is, and it has never stopped me enjoying watching the football.

Just as side note - when I told a friend of mine (who happens to be in the “know” on security issues) about the flask ban he was amazed that it hadn’t been implemented before, inferring that a flask is a container of choice for whatever nasty stuff nasty people want to put in it. On that basis we should be grateful, however over the top it seems, that the club are responding to any type of threat, trivial or not.

Thou does’t exaggerate! Not all revenue comes from TV companies and being a PL club. A huge chunk is from gate receipts and merchandising, admittedly it helps having the benefits of the cash cow that is the Premier League.

It's the cynicism I can't stand.

Commercialism hiding behind health and safety, hiding behind a perception of not being safe.

I'd rather they just said that as with other venues, only food and drink bought at the venue can be consumed at the venue, as is their right to do that. I'd have less of a problem with that.

At present, the concessions happily give out cups of tap water for free, so my kids are fine if they want water.

Saying it's all about health and safety is utter bullshit and they know it, as do all the other stadiums treating everyone like mugs.

Actually I'd say two other things cause more injuries than coins or bottles - humans and footballs. Maybe we should ban both of them from the stadium?

I think, as is the case in other areas of your life, you just gotta pick your battles. Not being able to take a flask or bottle tops to a match is really insignificant compared with other injustices around. Sure, get angry, but it won't do your health any good. Just enjoy watching the team play.

For what it's worth, wasn't there an article a few months ago that said many top tier clubs could survive comfortably without gate revenue? I think overall, our club is one of the best run in the country - easily. If there's something worth fighting for or boycotting, I'll agree 100% with you. This isn't it.

Again recognising this is a classic 1st world problem; it is rather annoying. Primarily as even if forced to buy their bottles the chances of being able to drink them (unless immediately consumed) become less as someone is bound to shuffle past you and knock them over, as without tops you are stuffed.

Of course we could all sit with the top free bottles in our hands all game until we want them. I'm sure some would say buy at half time etc but chances of buying anything in WSU at half time without missing some of the game are virtually nil.

Another classic case of us all being treated as the minority of idiots who cause trouble.

I don’t know, I’m not a munitions expert! All I’m saying is that the club are following guidelines set by the powers that be regarding security and safety issues. I suppose I would be annoyed if I took a flask of tea, or whatever, into the ground on a regular basis and then told I couldn’t. Having said that is it any more inconvenient than not being allowed to smoke within the confines of the stadium? All these rules and regs being applied unfortunately are symptomatic of today’s society and we just have to put up with them. Fundamentally, though, we all go to the Amex to watch our team play football - at least that hasn’t impinged on my enjoyment!
