Would those who advocate a statute of limitations be happy if it had been applied to Russell Bishop?

there could be limitations that distingiush between levels of the offense. like we do for type and length of sentancing. and we already do for minor offenses.

To take each case:

Stanley Johnson: For one thing no one is suggesting he is prosecuted for it. Also as this seems to have been made public by factions in the Conservative Party, don't be blaming it in do-gooder woke types.

Michael Vaughan: Again no one is suggesting he is prosecuted for it. Only the people involved know what happened although it seems the OP defaults to believing the white guy. That said a couple of his Tweets outlined above are certainly problematic to quite a lot of people and could show a pattern of behaviour.

As for the stuff coming out of Yorkshire I am not convinced it was acceptable 20 years ago and especially not 12 years ago. The club have made a monumental hash of dealing with it to the point you have to question if they really thought it a problem at all.

Funnily enough I was earlier today reading an interview from 2003 about a female banker with a sex discrimination complaint related to her bonus, and I was struck by this passage related to wider discrimination (my bolding):

"Her recent experiences do not stop her encouraging young women to choose the City as a career and she believes more women will help change it, particularly when it comes to networking. The golf course or even the lap dancing club might give way to something else.

Even so, she has no time for complaints about bottom pinching and other sexually charged jibes. Barton's aim is not to change the working culture of the City - 7.30am starts and the 10pm finishes - which she regards as the 'nature of the beast' - or some of the macho behaviour, particularly on the trading floors where she says 'the men are ghastly to other men'."

The point being that such behaviour was even at the time regarded as notably unacceptable, but swept under the carpet as "boys will be boys". It wasn't the right thing to do at the time, and should be recognised as such now.

There had to have been many women in the US who voted for Trump knowing that he had been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct, including the infamous taped conversation which included his remark "Grab ’em by the p****. You can do anything". Was it a case of some of them thinking this is locker room talk which a lot of men would be guilty of ? Or did they just want him as a President so badly they were prepared to hold their noses and press the button

And I know Biden has also been accused of inappropriate behaviour towards women.

I'm now awaiting my solicitor to call back from my allegations of bullying at HMS Ganges back in 1974 along with about 3,000 other boys prior to that time.

Probably has no recollection of the other alleged incident in 2019 then....

Oh come on now, its really not on to give the full story, as that doesn't support the OP's point!

Makes me wonder whether this topic would have a very different slant if the alleged victim had been the OP's family offspring that was groped 2 years ago?

The Whitechapel Murders were committed in 1888. Mary Jane Kelly (the last of the canonical five victims) was murdered on 9 November 1888. The last victim, and the murderer(s), will have been dead over a century and therefore would fall outside your 100 year statute of limitations.

If the murderer was an 18 year old in 1888 then it is not impossible that they could have been alive and celebrating their 100th birthday in 1970.

To be clear: I don't actually think Jack the Ripper was alive in 1970 (I put the name out for a joke) I am just defending my logic/maths here is all. :)

Victim? A slapped bottom nearly 20 years ago, i'm sure she's over it.

This reminds me, I once had my bum pinched in a nightclub in 2007. I must find out who my abuser was so i can press charges against her. She's probably still walking free.

There’s a bit of a difference between a slapped bottom where the giver of the slap is a prospective parliamentary candidate doing it in public, and a pinched bottom from someone you probably didn’t know and wouldn’t be able to identify.

And Caroline Nokes is one of our local MPs and a decent woman. She is the MP for the constituency where Mrs DiS’s college was, and so she met her frequently, getting on well and working together well although on different sides of the political fence.

Had Johnson groped my Wife or my Daughters bottom 20 years ago, or, indeed 2!years ago, I would have found it to be open season on the old perverts nose and punched him on it.
Anyone sticking up for the wife beating shitehouse , would you let him get away with such odious behaviour to your female relatives?

ridiculous

luckily bum slapping stil occurs from both sexes and the real world is different to the campaigners world

If I were a female having my bottom slapped by you as a male, you would be left in no doubt that I was not very happy about it:rant:

Its 12 years ago, it now transpires as well as Vaughan denying he said it, one of the four Asian players involved has come out and said he didn't hear it.

Devils advocate here, what if Vaughan's a marmite figure at Yorkshire, and the three players quoted have got together to smear him, knowing the whole issue will see them be believed rather than Vaughan?

I abhor racism in every shape or form, back in the day when on Anti Nazi League marches as a teenager, but ultimately this is down to one man's word against three others', regardless of their race, colour or creed?

Mate, I wouldn't question your good heart (no pun intended).

The shit has hit the fan, today, though. That lad giving his personal statement to the parliamentary committe was shocking.

I must confess that I had assumed that 'Asians' are poorly represented in sport because their parents push them into medical school (I teach in one and it and the biomedical sciences are very well represented by British Asians). It hit me today, listening to all that testimony and follow up programmes that....it's simply because of racism.

Quite upsetting, in fact.

The point being missed by the 'defense lawyers' is these aren't two random acts of 'handsy bantz'.

A man doesn't pat a random woman's arse 20 years ago and then does it one more time 2 years ago.

If a man is capable of doing it once, irrespective of the wholesome justification they use you can absolutely guarantee it's been done hundreds of other times too.

I don't know whether I am completely out of touch, but in 2003 I ran a number of software houses. If somebody had come to me and told me, with evidence, that some lecherous old man had slapped their arse with no invitation, I would have sacked the **** on the spot for sexual harassment under gross misconduct ?

Did anyone really have to put up with this sort of shit or condone in it 2003 ? Because you wouldn't had you worked for any of our companies.

Certainly not in my workplace since the late 80s (when I joined it) and probably since long before.

The thread title refers to a time limit regarding allegations.
As others have said, historians and others are free to make new allegations regarding events and actions and motivations from many hundreds / thousands of years ago - so no, there should not be a time limit regarding allegations.

The separate question that seems to being answered by some is 'should there be a time limit for prosecution of civil, or minor or major crimional actions?

That is not the question that was asked, and some have explained the 'statute of limitations' situations for different categories of alleged crimes.

Maybe the OP will start a new thread along the lines of 'which member of the Tory Party hates Boris enough to drag up this incident, with a view to tarnishing Boris by association - and why do they hate him so much'?

Does that mean we can play Another Rock and Roll Christmas again? Played on a Rolf Stylophone?

Interesting that in the current Channel 5 series on best selling singles in the 70s, when a Gary Glitter single pops up, it is played for about 5 seconds or so without comment and onto the next single in more detail.
