Used to be a good way to hear tracks from band you might never have heard of. Is there a modern equivalent of this

These were two released by CBs and one by Island Records in the late 60's early 70's. There were others who's names escape me.

Various - Fill Your Head With Rock (2xLP) at Discogs

VARIOUS ARTISTS (LABEL SAMPLERS) The Rock Machine Turns You On music reviews and MP3

Island Records Bumpers - White 'I' Label UK Double Vinyl LP 991 339730

Think they now do it through myspace, beebo and such.

From the reggae world... Greensleeves  I notice they have a sampler out from as recent as 2008 too.

Probably too much grief to press up a sampler AND the album in question!?

Bit of a gimmick in the 70's/80's, but nice to collect now though

Lost Highway compilation - Lost & Found Volume 1 from 2003. Great mix with Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Willie Nlson, Jayhawks.

Most months the glossy musice mags (Q, Mojo etc) have a freebie CD on the front, often featuring new stuff so I guess this takes the place of the old sampler albums.

Dont the Rough Trade record shops in London make their own mix cd's / samplers? Sure I've seen them in there before.
