Do people on here still think Pardew is a sh*t manager ?

I have always rated Pardew. I would have been quite happy for him to be our manager when he was in the frame a few years ago.

For some reason people on here think he is a shit manager. I don't get it. for me he is one of the best, young British managers around.

What is everyone's opinion now ?

Clearly doing a very good job.

Weren't people on here talking more about his character? I forget.

It's the 'curse' of having managed southampton I think.

I think the dislike all comes down to the very ungracious comments after we beat Reading to the League 1 title, similar to Adkins last season but worse as he actually said that the best team had not won the league I seem to remember. Adkins probably thought it but never actually said it as far as I know.

If Poyet said it, which he probably would, he would be a hero. We are very selective and hypocritical here. Every manager will say things that gain favour with their own fans. Except maybe, Poyet who backed Suarez , saying everything is fine with racist comments, which even Suarez has come out today and apologised and said he was wrong.

The only black marks against his character, as far as I'm aware are as follows:

1. Comments he made after the Reading game

2. He was allegedly shagging one of the players wives at Stains which sowed dressing room discord which resulted in poor team performances which resulted in him getting sacked which resulted in the rise of Adkins to take the credit for the team he had assembled

Otherwise a good manager.

On one of the previous threads I was less than complimentary about him, and I completely stand by that. Yes, he's doing a very good job at Newcastle, but his past record is fairly mixed, and he certainly didn't get the Newcastle job on merit.

His managerial record;
Reading - did well, took them up a division and to near the top of the Championship, albeit with significant funds at his disposal.
West Ham - took them up through the play-offs at the second time of asking. Had one very good season in the Prem, then was sacked after leading them to their worst run of defeats for 70 years.
Charlton - took them over when in the Premier League relegation zone. Failed to keep them up, and then failed to do anything in the Championship the following season despite spending a decent amount of money. Left them in the relegation zone the following season.
Southampton - spent a fortune, reasonably successful first season (considering that they had a 10 point deduction) but then left at the start of the next season following alleged naughty business and disagreement with the chairman.

The problem with Pardew back then was that he said the best team didn't win the league when in fact that was our strength as we had played fantastically well as a team then and in a way far over performed. Reading had much better individual players and the same goes for last year with us and SCC.

I'm sorry but that is bollocks. We would have lenty of fans saying how ungracious he was being.

I have been completely converted.

I thought Hughton's sacking was appalling and the appointment of Pardew would just end in tears. Looked more like Ashley wanted to enjoy another promotion campaign, and had given the job to a man who would inevitably take them down.

Hmm, no-one has been wrong since someone said "I think this will be the best Xmas Walford has ever known." Pardew has been absolutely brilliant, and I take my hat off to him. 12 months ago, I didn't think he was capable of managing in the FL, and now, I think he's probably the best candidate for the England job.

Let's not go too far. 12 months in football does not a world class manager make.

Maybe not, but he could very well be the best English candidate - who is not in jail - by the time Capello steps down. Personally, I'd quite like to see Roy Hodgson get it but I don't think he'll even get considered.

Possibly. Rather Martin O'Neill myself. Didn't Brooking say the "has to be English" thing was bollocks?

There are suggestions that the person who deserves the credit at Newcastle is Graham Carr, who I think is the chief scout. He's the one who spotted most of the players they've signed (the ones nobody had really heard of before they pitched up in Newcastle). Pardew just gives the nod.

Can't be doing that badly, but I still think he's a bit David Brent for my liking. Though he does appear to have mellowed a little over the years, not so many press statements that line him up for ridicule at least.
