My goldfish's little fishy friend has just died. They'd been together for 3 years. He is looking very sad, and seems to be searching for his friend. Do goldfish experience grief, or am I just being silly and soppy?

PS - I'm going to the fish shop tomorrow to buy him a new fishy friend.

I wouldn't get it a friend from the fish shop, it might batter it.

Just a heads up Monkey. Fish in a fish shop invariably tend to be dead already.

When I was a kid we had two fish, Pinky and Perky. Pinky ate Perky then died. So that was that.

Oh you meant a Pet Store then not a fish shop?

Surely, a shop where you buy fishy friends is a fish shop? They don't need to be dead do they? I mean, I could try chucking a kipper in the tank, but I'm not sure the current residents would appreciate that.

:) I liked that. I buy wet fish in a fish shop. They're normally dead.

I can't believe that I lost my (our) Queen three days ago, our manager at the same time and my Dad a few weeks ago and I'm discussing
the question of whether a Fish Shop sells live or dead fish. That's probably why I love NSC so much!!! :)

West is BEST
Fish are incapable of emotion and therefore do not grieve. You could replace the ex-fish with a carrot stick and the surviving fish would know no different.

I'll give you all of the money but I'd want 40% of the company. We could SCALE this down as the profits rise.

That would be my business idea on The Apprentice. "Yes Lord Sugar, I want to sell carrots as replacements for goldfish".
