Went to a scout camp years ago on the IOW. Can't for the life of me remember the name of the site though. Seem to remember it was somewhere near Black Gang Chine though.

Been to the Haven holiday camp at Thorness Bay (just west of Cowes) which was pretty good for the nippers. We had a static caravan though. I'm sorry, I just don't do tents.

There are different types of site - for example the Forestry Commission sites do not provide many facilities - just shower and toilet blocks, and you make your own entertainment, others offer holiday camp facilities with pools, bars, shops, etc. I can make recommendations for the New Forest - but not IoW.

I like to camp and have done so all over the world!

Funnily enough, a couple of my mates were talking about camping on the Isle of Wight while we were on our way to White Hart Lane on Saturday. I think the site they were saying was excellent was Appuldurcombe, near Ventnor.

I found the web site for you!

http://www.appuldurcombegardens.co.uk/

Not been there myself, so can't give any better information, I'm afraid.

Keep your wife away from the Pearl Centre, though, if you know what's good for you / your wallet!

When our kids were younger we used to do the self drive camping holidays in France and Spain. They were relatively cheap and the lifestyle was fairly laidback.

Tried pre-erected tents first then moved on to mobile homes. Once we tried a mobile home we didn't go back to tents!

Last time I camped was at Le Mans - unless your daughter can drink beer or wine in her bottle I don't suggest it.... little else is available
