we managed to get Dan Marney to become CHAMPIONSHIP player of the month, surely we can get Loft or Dixon to win player of the season

I think it has to be Dixon for it to be a real protest.

Loft could be dismissed as people just voting for him because they LOVE him.

It needs EVERYONE to do it for it to work.

Im in.

I will vote Loft #1, Dixon #2. But that's out of  for the Loftman more than a protest.

I think Whing deserves to win it, and I think he knows that. It would make more of a statement to rig it in favour of Loft or Dixon, it would be quite funny for them to announce at the Stockport game!

Loft does seem a good protest vote. He played well against Man City and was promptly dropped. Also, he is a good cult hero.

I'm going to be a really boring bastard here and put across an alternate view as to why I don't think this is the right thing, or at least how it could be done another way.

One, I don't see why of all things Player of the Season should be hijacked. There are enough players who have battled sufficiently hard enough to earn a vote. It might only be five or six players, but that ought to be enough. Do you really want to deny say Forster or Whing the accolade on the back of their colleagues' perceived ambivalence? There are also many people who do want to take this seriously enough without resorting to any kind of protest vote.

Secondly, why embarrass one Brighton player (and a bit part one at that) more than all the others? It might seem like a great in-joke to some about Loft being a 'hero', but it could make things worse among some to single him out this way. Does he deserve that? Or Dixon?

So if - IF - you're going to have a protest vote (and I don't think abstaining is anything like as effective), I'd select someone who isn't ours but who played for us this season. Christ knows there's enough to choose from - Johnson, Thornton, Fleetwood, Savage etc? Alternatively, you could actively vote, but tell the club 'No-one'.

Having said that, I'm open to a convincing argument, so I'll throw it open to the floor...

Unfortunately, I agree with all that. :( :lolol:

No, if you're going to protest then you have to do it for dixon, as the whole point is that no one has played well enough this season- the fact he hasn't played is the point. I'm still not going to do that- is either whing or fossie for me.

I think Lynch is better as he is a) Reflects the discontent about us heading backwards from last season and b) Is not one of the current players who might feel a bit crap if they are used as a JOKE vote.

I agree with this. Having a protest vote makes sense when you want to moan about the way that the club is being run (you note that they didn't have one in 1996/97, the club cat might have won it), but is there really that much disaffection against DK? He still commands the overwhelming support of most of this board.

It's also a protest at how unhappy we are/were about sending our best defender out on loan.

The one problem with Dixon I can see is that he hasn't actually appeared this season. There might be a rule that, regardless of whether you're at the club or not, you do actually have to step foot on the pitch at some point to be valid for P.O.T.S.

If we vote for someone not at the club anymore (ie Johnson, Thornton or someone like that) then the club will just ignore it.

So for me it's Lynch or Loft. But I'd go with whatever most people are going to do, as this will only work if a lot of people are willing to do it.
Dixon came on against the Walsall 9. Maybe a couple of other early games too.

The set up of the club has been a joke, the coaching staff, the managerial decisions have been a joke, the amount of money spent has been a joke, the players used has been a joke, the whole season has been a joke, so we may as well make this vote a joke.

How about

JOEL LYNCH...

I think that there would be a fair chance of those votes being ignored. Ditto Loft and Dixon.

This is a dangerous game being played here. In other words, if the fans really believe that the players haven't tried one iota, and are out to embarrass one player (rather than the whole squad, which is what would be happening) then they could easily feel 'well bollocks, we might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb', and really down tools into next season.

Hopefully, they would retain a sense of professionalism, but it does have the high possibility of removing one aspect of motivation next season if this does go ahead - i.e. playing for the fans.

What I'm saying is I'm not sure 'cause and effect' has been thought through.

He did though. He came on for 10 minutes against Walsall:yahoo:

Personally I will vote Lynch, as he is one of my favourite players and I am still pissed off he got loaned out to Forest:rant:
