With Everton and 6 others spending incredible sums, far outside our reach, that leaves just 3 places most seasons to achieve that top 10. I’ve always hoped that TB only meant it as an aspiration, a ‘corporate objective’. With Saudis and assorted other regimes or dubious individuals circling to buy clubs, it would be hard to achieve consistently.

A more sensible aim is simply mid table with cup runs. I see us potentially buying a centre forward for £25m max, hopefully in this window. Otherwise, any injury time out for Maupay could be a huge blow. I still have faith that the club are quietly working overtime on this.

I think we will get an answer very shortly as the Jota move is being completed.

This is never going to happen ... zero whispers and his wages (much like my striker of choice, ahem, Hulk) will break our structure six ways since Sunday!
