Disabled tickets

It's more of a shame that the amount of people trying to use this angle as a scam is bigger now than ever before. I've run a comparable ticket office for 5 years now & have always dealt with the enquiry for a carers ticket on trust. In the last 2 years, we've seen so many of these free tickets finding their way on eBay, to be sold on at higher than face value!! Unfortunately this has meant we've had to introduce the need to ask for DLA or similar in order to try & stop this happening. So I blame these people that have forced our arm to react unfortunately.

I can see that. Our season ticket is ambulant disabled and companion as my other half is visually impaired. We had to produce the dla letter at point of purchase, it's not a big problem but sad that it's a system that people have abused over time in enough numbers to make it necessary to check.

I'm sure the club will sort it out but its a shame people are not allowed to use common sense at the sharp end anymore.

Sadly there are people who fiddle any sytem for their own benefit and because of this it has become more onerous for genuine claimants.

Update : Even though Paul Barber is out of the office on a family matter he still got back to me within an hour or so after contacting the office. I'm afraid it is down to people abusing the system to get a disabled/carers ticket and so getting one in for free so depriving genuine disabled fans seats. Hard to believe there are people who would do that. It's going to take an age what with my experience of social workers to get the document sent but PB has explained it will then be straight forward. He seems a good man.

Could you not go to the office and somebody else look up his file and issue the letter or is that against the data protection act?

No it needs to be sent to the club. He doesn't receive mail...........he wouldn't be able to deal with it. I can't get it either although I'll try again so I can pass it on to the club. Doctor wants 40 quid I think to write a letter. Nice of him.

What about if you don't need a carer ticket? My son (was/is a programme seller) has had an accident which means he wont be able to walk for at least a year but i can escort him but not need a ticket as I'm staff/STH does he still need to go through all this? the fact he has a cage bolted to his leg not proof enough?

My son a STH in upper West had an operation on his leg and was confinded to a wheel chair for abour 5 games and I had no trouble getting a wheelchair ticket. They did say he had to apply for each game individually and they were in great demand. The other point to be taken into account is that at that time Paul was in charge of the ticket office and things arent now like they were when he was in charge.

Paul McGowan was a really nice guy, and a pleasure to deal with, that isn't to say that the new incumbent isn't either, but I have never had the need to speak to her.

If you don't need one you don't need one, if you've got a ticket then it doesn't matter

Tried to get a disabled ticked for Nigel The Bushfire Erskine yesterday as I had promised him the Charlton match and although I and many of his other friends have booked up in advance before for a wheelchair and carer spot they now won't allow us to do it on the phone. We need to send proof he is on DLA with a special card from the benefits office or get his doctor to wrote a letter to one of us for a charge after we have sent in permission from his key worker/social worker with certain info. Phoned her and she is on annual leave and doesn't ring back so either way without Court of Protection help ..... Nige doesn't get to see the Albion.

Do they really think he is faking his massive stroke. Spent 3 hrs yesterday going round the houses and I will get it sorted eventually obvious (he's a Seagull) but must admit I don't know why the club have done this.

Ranting I know but I was so fecking wound up yesterday.

do you have your own season ticket?
if so ,you can ask for a wheelchair spot (paid for without asking for free carer seat)for him in part of the ground you have access to.Can then take him to the area he needs to be in and nobody is going to be in the Carer seat next to it anyway. No checks should be necessary by the ticket office as you are not asking for a concession or a free ticket.

You dont have to have a designated carer with you either to be allocated a wheelchair spot, the checks only arise when asking for the option of a free seat etc.

Obviously doesnt help achieve the free carer seat option that the checks require to get entitled to,but at such short notice at least you would be seated together.
