discipline - its a MASSIVE problem

not only have we had a ridiculous number of red cards already this season which isnt helping matters, the number of free kicks we gave away today was nothing short of scandalous

according to the bbc, we have away EIGHTEEN fouls - and about ten of them seemed to come in a 10 minute period around the sending off. as long as we keep presenting teams with the opportunity to create something from a set piece, effectively gifting possesion over, we are going to struggle

gus needs to take a long hard look at just why we are such a dirty team, as it is going to have a massive bearing on the season, not just in a different player being suspended every week but that its just leaving us penned back in our own half - and we cant really defend to save our lives

get the donkeys out and stop the pointless fouls and it might help us improve

Abort, retry, fail
It is having a negative impact. It breaks up the game, when we should be taking it to the visitors and, as you say, we are losing players almost every week which means there is no continuity.

On the subject of our free kicks. I would like to see us try and retain possession, as opposed to lofting it up. If we don't have someone who is capable of hitting towards our own player, more often than not, then we should keep it simple and play it short. It will also keep the tempo going and put the opposing team under pressure.

The sending off was harsh today, a couple of nothing-fouls. Their lot were going down like a sack of shit for EVERYTHING.

it was a little harsh. the problem was though that prior to that we had committed about six similar fouls that had ALL resulted in free kicks. it doesnt take a brain surgeon to work out that the ref was therefore obviously all over those little trips and shirt pulls and was going to pull is up for it everytime, yet we continued to ignore that fact and give away fouls which ultimately resulted in the second yellow for crofts

Anyway, who cares? I was delighted Crofts got sent off because it means I can at least enjoy one game without that CONMAN doing nothing in midfield.

Doubt Poyet agrees with you as he is now missing his captain for a game, will come straight back in after his ban

Still thought it was harsh, either of those challenges could have been "a quiet word" from the ref. Guess he dislikes the welsh or something.

We've been alot better disciplined under Gus, but Crofts was running the risk of getting sent off because of being booked early on in the first half. And it was always going to be difficult with Crofts the only centre midfielder in a three man midfield in the second half.

The Orient player knew exactly what he was doing for the 2nd yellow. He went down like a sack of shit until thr ref gave the free kick and the card then he immediately got up and walked away as if nothing had happened.

No, neither of them should have been a 'quiet word' from the ref. If it had been an opposition player, would you have expected that. Seen in isolation, both were definite yellows. He had to go.

Shall have to agree to disagree then. You can get booked for sneezing at someone these days. The clattering challenge on Bennett down by the dugouts, now THAT was a definite yellow - late and dangerous, wiped him out completely. Compare that challenge to the two that Crofts picked up yellows for, chalk and cheese.

I'll tell you what else aggravated me. That blatant SHOVE in the back on Dickinson late on in the penalty area when they were both charging after the ball, with Dickinson trying to keep it in. Anywhere else on the pitch and thats given as a mandatory foul, but because its in the area, the ref and lino just didn't want to know. Pathetic.

For me the reason why we have such a poor disciplinary record is simple; most of the players that we have are simply not good enough for League 1. Unless we pick up some quality in the Jan transfer window and move on as much of our dross as possible, we're going to be in deep, deep trouble.

Incidentally, perhaps it's time to give Steve Brinkhurst a chance? Sounds like he's having a stormer today for Lewes and at least he's left footed - and I find it hard to believe that he'll be any worse than Cox.

There was a moment late in the game when Hoyte lunged in, desperate to bring play to a halt. Rather surprisingly, he won the ball and just looked baffled that the referee hadn't blown the whistle for the foul that he'd intended.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with that statement, too slow and talentless for this division.
