Read in the paper today...(OK,a pinch of salt) that Huddersfield Town have lost £5m...even after selling Jordan Rhodes for £8m....just how many clubs in the championship are breaking even or making a profit?

Yes, but aren't Huddersfield renowned for paying high players wages? I expect that's where the loss has occurred.

Par for the course in this division (see Bristol City, Ipswich).

I have the feeling our books are going to make for some painful reading.

Ipswich lost £14mill in 09/10 and would have lost the same in 10/11 had they not sold Connor Wickham for £10 mill. Crazy.

Our FD said we have one of the best turnover/salary ratios in this division.

Our accounts were signed in Feb last year (Palace's likewise), so expect them to be available on the Company House website from March.

Rhodes was sold to Blackburn during their current financial year which doesn't end until June 30th. This loss will relate to the 2011/12 financial year and, if correct, perhaps explains why they sold him?

I do believe that BHA have probably got one of,if not the best turnover/salary ratios in this division due to their high attendances. As for any team making a profit after paying wages,it must be nigh on impossible in this division when players are paid thousands of pounds a week.

Was there not something written by the Insider (or maybe another BHA official) that there is only 1 club in the Championship making a profit currently?

I find it staggering that any club on parachute payments is not making a profit... as for us, can we please forget this arbitrary turnover/salary measurement? Can anyone imagine McDonald's publishing a "burgers sold to staff wages ratio" figure on their yearly accounts?

Possibly Wolves with the number of players they sold in the summer. Other than that, I'm not surprised that no other clubs are making a profit. Another sign that something needs to be done about footballers extortionate wages.

When fair play comes in teams that pay to much and lose money will be fined I believe this weeks programme may have some information about how it will work and no longer will it be advantage for a rich Chairman to be able just to sign cheques and bale out his club. This is why we need to balance the books quickly?:ffsparr:

It's unlikely all the time Tele money is being pumped in at the top end and clubs in the Championship strive for promotion. They simply won't have a choice. Only way to overcome it I think is if the FL and Prem could somehow get together and divi up the TV money a bit more, so FL clubs see some of it. But that isn't going to happen so I think FL clubs will always largely rely on the "generosity" of their shareholders

Wolves makes sense as they turned a profit in their last 2 seasons in the prem. with the player offload its feasible

I am sure that Mr Bloom has very good tax advisers and will be able to offset a fair bit of his profits elsewhere against BHA losses. So still a painful hit but probably not nearly as bad as any initial read may seen
