Dickinson: I spat the dummy at half-time

Dickinson: I spat the dummy at half-time From The Argus)

Now as much as I like our Liam and felt that in some ways he had a much better game on Saturday, he is one of the last people I would consider justified to have reacted in such a way.

If he had taken the glorious opportunity from what I think was yet another sublime Bennett cross early in the first half or had properly put his foot through the pass from Nicky after his terrific run to the byeline and pull back, then our Liam would have been celebrating a fairly simple hat trick and Russell may be still be gainfully employed.

I was bloody livid at those misses at the time and our Liam should perhaps let his feet do the talking and not his gob

I think the calamitous defending is more to blame for our current predicament than Dickinson's finishing, as inconsistent as it has been. Passion is part of the game and I for one am glad he had the nuts to stand up to those boneheads that masqueraded as defenders on Saturday. To lose a lead 5 minutes before half time is absolutely atrocious, by any standards. The jury may still be out on Dickinson, but I'm delighted that he plays for us and I'm convinced that he will go on to be a great player and a quality striker for us.

f***ing hell, Dicko really can't win can he? if he wanders around on the pitch and doesn't score people accuse him of being lazy and say he looks like he doesn't care, if he gets angry, shows a bit of passion for the club and puts more effort in like he did on Saturday, people still moan?! :wozza:

Liam Dickinson has admitted throwing a half-time wobbly over Albion’s ropey defending.

Dickinson struck his fourth goal of the season and partner Nicky Forster scored either side of the interval to raise his tally to nine in Russell Slade’s last game in charge at home to Hartlepool on Saturday.

They helped the Seagulls come from behind twice to earn a 3-3 draw but two goals conceded in as many minutes, which sent Hartlepool in at the break 3-2 up instead of 2-1 down, had Dickinson seething.

The giant striker revealed: “I made a point at half-time, spitting my dummy out a little bit in the changing rooms, which I shouldn’t have.

“Conceding three goals at home by half-time isn’t good enough. We are having to try to score four goals to win.

“These individual mistakes need sorting out. The lads held their hands up, they know they were in the wrong.

“It’s frustrating for the forwards but also, when I am not on my game and the ball is bouncing off me, it’s frustrating for the defenders. You have got to just give and take really.”

A point was enough to edge Albion back out of the League One relegation zone but they have now leaked 27 goals in 15 games, the third-worst defensive record in the division.

Dickinson, bought by Slade in the summer after a nightmare move to Derby, is sad to see him go.

“I’d never want a manager to get the sack or to leave,” said the former Stockport marksman. “He brought me here, he’s been playing me and I am enjoying my time here.”

The point is that he is equally culpable as those that gave goals away by missing chances literally ANYONE could have scored.

I'm quite sure the rest of the team bollock him if he fucks up easy chances. I'm glad to see he was f***ing livid with the defending in the 1st half, anything else and I'd have to question whether he should even be here. I like Dickinson and what I've seen of him, he's committed, ok he moans a bit too much, goes down too easily (both things that can be coached out of him) but at least he can score cracking goals and he is settling down in a team that has been all over the place.

Equally culpable as the defenders who conceded 3 you mean? the strikers took two of their chances in the first and when a team scores 2 goals in the first half you expect to be leading but no, our woeful defending cost us 3 goals that were all relatively avoidable.

That's exactly my point - pot - kettle - black.

It has been both ends of the pitch where we have been messing up and although he may have been right to throw a wobbly, on the basis a 9 year old could have taken those chances, he may have wished to hold his tongue.

I am all for passion but bollocking your team mates when you are just as guilty smacks of double standards and hypocrisy?

Worked for Danny Cullip and it still works for FDM. I think it's called passion and we could do with a lot more of it on the pitch at the moment imo

I thought Dickinson played one of his best games on Saturday.

Even so, the "spat the dummy" phrase is perfect for him, given his whiny, sulky demeanour.
