Apparently it wasn't the results but the style of play that the owner objected to. Nothing to do with 7 games without a win, all about failure to 'play the Derby way'. Mentalists :lolol:

I saw that and immediately wondered 'what is the 'Derby way'?'

So, the principle is that they play the same way from the U8s through to the first team, progression is enabled through the age groups etc etc - The youngsters are coached the same way all the way through, couple of people I know have kids in the academies that speak about this, 2 touches pass, move and so on, it's quick and attacking. Clement's style, while much more focused on the primary objective of ball retention, so it was quite negative. I think the stats will show we have a very % possession, but most of that was with the back 4 and it got predictable, teams could press and press, eventually we'd lose the ball and you know what happens next....

Sounds like Gus and Oscar had us playing and yes it could get fecking dull but when it all clicked it was very exciting. Mostly quite dull with sideways and backwards passes though. We were fantastic in League One but were unable to repeat this in the Championship. We could dominate possession but were always likely to lose or draw to the teams that worked us out. Thumping wins were very few and far between. Sounds like Clemence had the same Latin philosophy.

Don't think it is that negative, played 30 championship games and scored 40 goals. Only 5 teams have scored more goals in the championship.

EDIT: Also 4th best GD.

Which then beggar's the question, why didn't you appoint someone whose tactical play was in keeping with "The Derby way"? Surely in Clement's interview he would've said he likes to play controlled possession football, in a similar style to..... (Insert name of manager/coach trying to emulate).

Agreed, it just hasn't clicked very often! Thumping wins? I remember a couple, but thumping goals were becoming a bit of a fantasy tbh haha.

A lot of very good goals along the way, not many where we've really broken down the opposition. If you look at some of the goals that Butterfield, Thorne, Ince, Johnson etc have scored, they've been long rangers or beat three men and score types.... I take the point though, I just don't think the overall stats are painting the whole picture.

I don't know, but it's quite easy to talk philosophy, something else to implement it. I'm sure many of us have employed people who gave a blinding interview and then.....

I see that Richard Keogh has been made club captain , who has he replaced ? seems odd decision to replace club captain as well ?

How very strange.

Seems like there has been some drama between different factions behind the scenes.

Derby are still in a great position in the table, but everything appears to be in chaos below the surface.

The Chairman needs to step back and take a critical look at his own behaviour.

Keogh is one of Derby's weak links. Always looks less than impressive when i've seen Derby play on the box. If the Republic of Ireland are relying on him this summer they should prepare for a repeat performance of the last Euro's. Granted, they probably haven't got that many options to take his place.

Remember that game against West Ham in the first Amex season. Something like 70% possession (most of it back and forwards across the back four) but a 1-0 defeat at the end of it

Yes there were LOADS of games like that. I remember away at Blackpool we had a throw in on the edge of the Blackpool box. Within 3 passes it was back in Ankergrens hands. Virtually the whole length of the pitch. BACKWARDS.
