Derby play 4-3-3 for most games (only team in the Championship that does), as other formations were not too sucesssful. I don't think their style has changed all that much in two seasons. No starters in the first play-of game at the Amex will be playing this afternoon.
Leading possession team home and away and overall in the Championship, and at least equal best (with Hull) passing team.
To me they do not seem to create so many chances inside the opposing penalty area as they did two seasons ago, an area in which we have surpassed them.
With passing teams the idea is not to burn ourselves chasing shadows. But if we don't challenge we will lose control of the game. So I think we will have to be very clever in our play.
But I think Derby will try and slow the game down and try play it their pace (is it slower than ours?). When it matters we are going to have to up the tempo.
Of course, they won't be thinking of the beach (unlike QPR) but keen to put in a play-off contention performance. Hopefully, they will keep their set piece routines for the play-offs and not reveal them.
77% of their goals are from open play. A bit like the Albion until recently.
