Derby and Fulham bid for Dunk [+ Newcastle now interested]

There's some absolute garbage being spouted about Dunk on here. We have a fantastic young defender on our books who will continue to mature and iron out those silly mistakes. Last year we saw him come on leaps and bounds and cement a regular place. On top of that he scored a load of goals last year which is quite rare for a center half.
Do people not realize he is still young and learning? I don't think Dunk is overrated at all. Infact he is completely underrated. To many people want to sell him and fail to see he is only 23.

Unless a silly offer of 6 -7 million is being offered we should stick two fingers up at other Championship clubs.

Dunk is a key player for us and it's about time the club does everything it can to keep hold of our young stars. We don't need to sell and shouldn't.

Agreed, but 4-5 million is a lot of money for a Centre Half and in my opinion is a position you can replace with quality for considerably less.

Replacing attacking players is a lot harder, and it may well free up the bit of extra cash we need to get those deals done.

Baldock was not a waste of money. He's a quality finisher and would score loads if played in his correct position

But it's not about his ability, is it? I think buying a player and not using him in his correct position is a good definition of a waste of money. Extreme example but if someone bought Messi for 100 million and put him in goal, would everyone talk about how shit a goalie he is or that the club (probably Liverpool) was wasting their money?

His does not seem to have the pace to be a real threat to the opposition. I quite like his defending when he loses the ball.

I've not seen enough of Baldock to make any sort of judgement on his value - 21 appearances last season, most of which were out of position. However, I have seen enough of Rohan Ince's aerial ability over the past 2 seasons to know that he is a far far better defensive midfielder than he ever will be centre back.

I have mentioned Perch at Wigan on numerous occasions as one that I would certainly bid for amongst others, good quality centre halfs can be found s whole lot easier than attacking players was my point. Bassong at Norwich is another I would bid for, loaned out by Norwich last year, and I would be surprised to see him get game time in the premier league. I'm sure the scouting team have plenty of options of required, on top of that both players I mention have played and I believe were signed by Hughton previously....

Marshy's not a professional scout; he's an IT geek. I would expect that the people that are paid by the club to do this have a long list of potential replacements from all over Europe, for whom they could probably pay the transfer fee and wages for 4 years for £4m.

This with bells on. Dunk is the player we should be building the back four around, especially now GG is nearing the end. This would make the premature departures of Cook and Elphick even more nonsensical. One thing I do seem to remember is a £5m release clause in his contract but if you were Lewis Dunk, would you leave the club who have nurtured and developed you for one a handful of places up the table? I think Fulham might be exercising the right to talking to LD, but signing him might be another matter.

What makes you think any of the money received will be reinvested in the team, it's not like we have a track record of re-investing anywhere near the money received for players on the team.

For this reason I really don't get fans who say "yeah go on sell him". The replacements have been mostly absolute rubbish ( but allegedly very expensive) over the last couple of years.
