The Whip? let's rename this thread crap bands that are supposed to be from Manchester but are from cushdy little middle-class satellite towns in Cheshire.

Maybe Delphic literally are a poor man's Whip then ? :)

Reminds me of a great Anthony H Wilson quote aimed at Mozzer "they've done a film about me, they're doing a film about Curtis, no one is doing a film about that miserable c**t from Altringham"

Made me chuckle anyway.

Delphic didnt do it for me I'm afraid. The album is one thing and it has its moments, but I've never enjoyed any live band trying to re-create a throbbing club environment with 'proper' instruments. To be honest it's pointless, as good DJs do it much better. I cannot think of any band I've seen do it successfully either. I have no issue with electronic bands getting a wall of synths and rocking out though, but live bands never cut it in my opinion.

I did enjoy the three geezers who worked their way to the front and went for it. They seemed to have a ball, all credit to them. Is that what Bulmers does to you?

Delphic aside I loved the support (and local) band, Mirrors. They had some great songs (second one was pure pop, like early Mode) and were a little amateurish and clumsy at times but they have great potential. The singer cannot dance. Mind you, that never held back OMD did it? I had a brief chat to the singer and he seemed a really nice lad, and quite humble when I said I enjoyed their set. Anyone know anything about them?

Oh yes, Mirrors. They're lovely, and played a staunch set last night. Did you visit the merch stall? Looked nice, didn't it? Better t-shirts than Delphic, £2 for a two-song CD (that's £1 a song) and free posters (just with Delphic on them). Better to watch than Delphic as well, who I thought were dull, although their live set is only going to improve and by the summer I can see them scaling stellar status.

Also, any of you lot down the front sporting a grey hoody (possibly with Lonsdale on the front) and next to/behind the said three dancing geezers? I thought I recognise you from the footy.

Brighton - In your face
Hi all, first timer here.

I went to the gig last night having purchased tickets just to see Mirrors. I wasn't disappointed. Having first saw them at the Great Escape last year I was impressed how they've already changed from 4 laptops to a live set and how confident they were.

Hopefully there's good times ahead for them which is not what I can say for Delphic. They're ok but not much more than a sub-standard dance/guitar band. I left halfway through their set. They'll be forgotten about within 2 years.

I think the problem that Delphic had last night was that venue just didn't suit them, either soundwise or roomwise. I quite enjoyed them but they would have benefited from being in a larger venue in my opinion. They have a pretty big sound that seems destined to fill bigger rooms than Audio.

Mirrors on the other handed seemed perfectly suited to the venue, their cleaner sound certainly came across better than Delphic's. Definitely ones to watch, a very enjoyable set. Apparently they have just signed to Skint hopefully the label will give them some serious backing.

I went specifically to see Mirrors who i missed when they supported Fever Ray here last year. I love their early Depeche Mode sound and their stuff reminds me of the early Mode b-sides (which is no bad thing!)

As for Delphic, i went in with an open mind but i must say i thought they were pretty good! The way the songs fused together and the atmosphere created was a pleasant suprise. One thing is for sure, they wont be playing a venue like Audio again. Expect 3rd or 4th on the bill at the Isle of Wight

How long have they been together (Mirrors)? I hope they do get some backing and some guidance. A good producer could really work some magic with their stuff.

The singer mentioned they have just started a night at New Hero. They curate it and its a mad jumble of magicians, entertainers and bands and DJs. It has a french name which went over my head but I do like it when folk do bonkers things like this. And if they can make a success of a night at New Hero I'll give them a double thumbs up. I've been hugely disappointed the past 3-4 times I've been there.

Just been listening to Mirrors on their myspace.

Much preferable to the Delphic stuff (which I must say is getting a tad boring after a few listens! Doubt is still a big tune though)

A couple of years I think. As I said I saw them in April last year at the GE and apparently the Skint men went after them after that night. Only signed them recently though.

Welcome to the board....and I think you might be right you know.

Thanks. Me? Right? I like this board already . . . .

Mmmmm. I've just been listening to Friendly Fires and Memory Tapes. Both do a similar thing to Delphic, and both do it better IMHO.
