You get coached when your young, when i say young i mean from kids football. these players are full grown men who have played the game professionally for a long time now. If they dont do the basics right now, they never will. Coaches dont sit down with these players and write on a blackboard what they should be doing and where they should be. This should come as second nature to these guys! But they dont seem to have the natural awareness of how to read the game and be one step ahead of the opponent. Its basic stuff.

If that is true why did George Graham employ Don Howe at Arsenal and why do Premiership Clubs have defensive coaches for players who are at the top of their game?

I don't think our players are too old to learn. I think they could benefit from a more experienced player in the back 4.

Top clubs employ defensive coaches to work on areas that might need looking at, perhaps tweeking a little, through DVD's of games and working on the training field, things like that i guess.

What they dont have to do is sit a whole side down and explain to them the art of BASIC defending.
Where to be, how to read a game. These are things that come naturally to gifted players, whop only need to work on the super critical aspects of their game, and as a team. Zonal marking is one area that is highlighted as a different style of defending and top teams perhaps work on that to give themselves the best chance of defending set pieces if you like.

Our centre halves are simply not talented or gifted enough to know how to read a game. They are not top pros playing top level football. They are very ordinary footballers playing very ordinary lower level football. Some are even lucky enough to be called professional IMO.
