plenty of positives today, we look pretty steady in the middle, plenty of attacking threat but i think its fair to say our defence still looks dodgy and error prone. Bloom and slade need to pull all the stops out to get a defensive minded coach in now. This is where our problems lie and imo will make the difference between another relegation fight or us pushing towards the playoffs.
On an unrelated subject, much better from dickinson today (despite two bad misses) bennett was outstanding as was forster.

natural full backs would also help the defensive situation

Why do people keep bleating on about defensive coaches?

These players are not under 10's, there professional footballers, which could be debatable.

If these players cant defend now, at there age/experience levels, they never will be able to!

You cant teach old dogs new tricks. You've either got it or you havent!

Elphick, Tunnicliffe, Virgo, El abd should all be replaced when the chance arises.

I and many others have been saying that we need a defensive coach for the past 5 years so why should this suddenly come about now.

Because it should be bloody obvious to the those at the club that this is the root of our problems.
Not only are the defence making stupid, costly errors they are making them time and time again, is this down to Slade? perhaps but I think it points to the coaching staff inability to improve our defenders and learn from mistakes. I think our coaching set up looks tired and there seems to be very little passion from the dugout.

I dont need a defensive coach to tell me when to mark tight! Especially in our 18 yard area in the first 20 mins.

These players are simply not up to it. Their strikers had the time to turn and shoot at goal so many times it was embarrasing.

We have too many defenders capable of making at least a couple of howlers per game. Having said that the fact that their forwards had SO MUCH TIME on the ball in the box is down to the coaching ... :US:

Have you noticed that everybody tends to blame somebody else other than themselves.

I was saying that we had known this for 5 years so the club must, so it is unlikely to be resolved immedately.

No its not!! - Its down to the players not being good enough to realize they need to mark tightly in and around the area.

Defending is all about being Shirt tight! not standing 5 yards off!!

Perhaps you are awnser to our problems then?

You can't be saying that coaching doesn't have a possive effect on the team and that it's all just about natural ability?

You get coached when your young, when i say young i mean from kids football. these players are full grown men who have played the game professionally for a long time now. If they dont do the basics right now, they never will. Coaches dont sit down with these players and write on a blackboard what they should be doing and where they should be. This should come as second nature to these guys! But they dont seem to have the natural awareness of how to read the game and be one step ahead of the opponent. Its basic stuff.

Time for a complete clear out defensively. The goals scored up front are being totally negated by the wide open spaces at the back. It was pitiful today. Where's the Butters-like senior pro LEADER marshalling the less experienced defenders? Just won't do.
