why when we defended corners did we have ALL eleven players in our own penalty box?

firstly, it meant bournemouth could push extra men forward, as they didnt have to worry about a breakaway as we had no strikers. this meant more bodies in the box, which meant it was more crowded, which meant there was more chance of the ball ending up going anywhere - such as our goal

secondly, if we did clear the ball, we were just conceding possesion to them as there was no-one up top to work and get it back. surely we could leave someone like cox up there to ensure they have to have at LEAST 2 men back

I feel the same way. Butters doesn't go for headers at corners any more as he has to block other players. Negative tactics.

I've always wondered about this tactic of pulling everyone back, it's crazy.

Why not get your 2 fastest players out wide on opposite wings on the halfway line? being fast, they'll be able to chase and ball punted forward and will tie up at least 3 defenders as they'll need to go one on one plus wanting to leave another in the centre.

Should be Cox or Jake if hwe is playing as neither is very tall but both can break quickly.

at least we were winning when he stopped butts and elphy going up last night

on saturday he stopped them when the game was goalless and we should have been trying to win

On most occassions now that conceeds a free kick much better to kick the ball at the opponents legs so it keeps going off for another throw in or corner.

I agree, a shorter faster player left up the pitch, not needed to defend the corner but would take 2 or 3 players to stay on him. (Dean Cox for example)

Our corners are and have been totally shit all season, we have no ideas or any new routines. They've never been the same since we lost Paul Watson.

Thats what I would do, You need an out ball or someone closing down or the ball will come back in as soon as you clear it.

I agree, I felt this was a lot of our problem in the first half, because they could easily just bring the ball back up the pitch, because we had no one there to challenge for the ball.

When Ward was playing, he used to just pace back and forth on the centre-line.
That always meant the opposition would have a bloke marking him.
Not that it mattered to mark him, as he'd always skin the poor bastard anyway, as soon as the ball broke to him.
