There was a smashing ones round here, making a decent amount for charity, but the Council put a stop to it by demanding an enormous fee.
So decorating your house, for charity, however you want to can incur a charge? The council need to f*** OFF

This country these days makes me despair sometimes. ****s

We always go over to Westfield on Xmas Eve. The displays are always fantastic. This was one of my favourites from a few years ago.

Yes you do, for a big display. The Council insist you pay for a Council approved qualified electrician to set it up/check it. Cost, £2,000 plus.
That doesn’t make any sense to me, if you aren’t connecting to a council supply ie a street lamp it’s got sod all to do with them.
You can do what you want in your own premises.
And what is a council approved electrician? Someone who works for the council 🤣
Not saying you are wrong although being a sparks it doesn’t make sense.

I don't know whether the electrician would be an employee of the council, or an independent electrician commissioned by the council for the job. Either way, it never came to pass, because the householder refused to pay and the light display was never brought out again.
And that is what happened.
